That they haven't been able to, is nothing to do with Ange-ball being "sustainable" . The squad can play Ange-ball 4 games a week against busparquet without even breaking a sweat. Whether the result of each game would be a win currently seems to be venturing into "coin toss" territory. At the moment I contend we have a squad that if it cannot play Ange-ball, then it defaults to Portu-ball (and we have 3+ seasons to know how that plays out ) .
Agree...I think it's also about what your hopes are for the club and how or why you're a fan. As a kid I found football a great escape from a violent home. Cousins lived in N London in Wood Green and there were loads of spurs fans there so at the age of 7 spurs were for me. Followed them on the radio every match day (radio two) when we were in division 2. Went to my first game in 81 and went regularly until I left school in 83. Made my world bearable. Started going again when El Tel was our manager until 93. Started going again in 2003 with the kids and carried on apart from covid and the end of last season. All in all... spurs made me feel like part of something as a kid...no matter how shut we were. When I didn't go it was due to being skint but I always followed us on radio, TV etc. I think this is why I don't call people "armchair fans" or "proper fans" or "tourists" in a derogatory way. And think it's why winning trophies is not my primary issue. The times I turned on Enic and levy were when (imo) they have treated people badly like the furloughing of staff during covid (stopped), signing up to the ESL (stopped) and now getting rid of the over 65s concessions (hopefully will be stopped). I get why others feel differently as we all had different journeys to being a spur.
He's 22 and in his first season in the PL. He will get better with time and experience. Others won't. Bissouma, Richarlison, Kulusevski and Hojbjerg are on the second list, among others.
And who would we replace him with? Arsenal fans said the same 2 years ago about Arteta. Good thing the Arsenal board didn't listen.
Yeah he will, before today he’s been very good. But today was an appalling performance by him. Mentally I hope he can over it quickly
I don't think he yet has the players he needs to implement his system. And the first placed I'd look at is CM. A system that is this high risk and requests it's FBs to be 30 yards out of position by design, urgently needs midfield control ans proper cover for a defense that will be exposed, again: by design. Ange inherited five CMs patched together by five different managers, and has given it a real go in trying to coach them into the system, but it hasn't worked. Skipp and Hojbjerg have never looked top 4 quality, Sarr is young and Bentancur has had serious injury problems. The one gambit we had was Bissouma, a player who most of us were delighted to sign and whose early season form seemed to confirm our delight. But as teams have worked out how our system works and how to exploit it, it has become abundantly clear that he isn't working in that role. Ange needs to be given a huge budget in the summer, like Arsenal gave Arteta, to address this issue. Stick a player like Rodri at the base of that midfield and I am confident the system begins to click into place. Invest in a proper, terrifying striker up top and I genuinely think these conversations will become a distant memory. We are two pieces away from giving our manger the correct tools to implement his chosen system. Until he is given those tools, it is both unfair and premature to judge him. Even Guardiola, with all his acumen and experience, failed to lead City to the title in his first season. They finished miles off the top. He turned around to his board and asked for the tools he would need for a new era of success. They gave him Walker, Laporte, Ederson and Bernardo and the rest is very much history. I rarely say this but calm down gentlemen. Judge Ange on terms that are actually fair and logical.
Sorry, not at all implying that should happen, just saying team performances like that make chairman very twitchy! I've always said this job will take a few years to come to fruition...
I’m a generational Spurs fan so don’t really have a huge story for supporting the club, lol. I do however have a good story to prove how football and Spurs can connect you to people you likely never would’ve met outside of it; Nine years ago me, my two cousins and two mates had tickets to West Brom away, the week before the game one of my cousins broke their collarbone so had to give up their ticket. After attempts to sell the ticket to other mates that were unable to take them, my other cousin went on a Spurs Facebook group and offered the match ticket as well as the return train tickets from Euston to Birmingham (that I’d paid for), we got an instant response from a guy that wanted them and since then we’ve become great mates with him, going Malta with him twice (which included my 30th) as he used to live out there, multiple other holidays and nights out and just last week I watched him marry his beautiful bride. We all joke about the fact at how we love my cousin for breaking his collarbone as otherwise we’d have never met . As for Spurs though, I’d probably say expectations change throughout a season for better or worse. Last season I thought we’d cement 3rd and even give the top 2 a scare yet by the end of it I couldn’t wait for it to finish as I hated it. I didn’t have huge hopes for this one but would now be disappointment if we finished below 5th, although I wasn’t happy with our performances in the cups considering we had no European football.
The thing is, Pep & Captain Scarlet are working for ambitious boards who have a determination to bring success, they have both been backed and given the players they needed. We all know how Levy operates, Ange will almost certainly not be given similar levels of backing, Levy won`t be dropping £100m on a game changing player, he prefers to sign potential with the hope they turn into top class players.
This summer is the big test for Levy. The recent signs have been more positive than not, as we've made multiple good moves in the market and also haven't done the usual piddling about trying to move players on before signing anyone. The VDV signing stood out for me in the summer as Levy of old would've baulked at that price tag without selling first and I was expecting another attempt at a Joe Rodon type player, but we bit the bullet and gave the manager what he needed. I'm also not a fan of mass overhauls as we've seen it fail too many times. We need to add two players for big money this summer: ST and CM. These are critical. Everything else is window dressing by comparison and I'll say it again but if keeping Werner for £13m as back up frees up an extra £25m to put towards a new ST, so be it. We have to stop this nonsense of signing stocking fillers for the squad while the first team still needs urgent repairs. We did it with Mourinho, Nuno and Conte and it led to total collapse. Spending £30-40m on a player who will just be second fiddle to Son anyway is a nonsense and I know I drone on about it endlessly, but we made the mistake when we lost that amount on Bryan Gil. It doesn't work. Concentrate on getting the first team right, then we can start looking at major squad upgrades. Until that point, we need to be much better in how we use the academy for cover.
100% agree with all of this, could not have put it better myself! Now let's just get through today with my Villa supporting boss texting me already. Although what he he thinks they are going to do today is beyond me!!
