Made hard work of a game that we largely dominated, despite not playing particularly well. Newcastle were very poor and didn't offer much at all. Worrying times for them. We'll need a better performance to get anything from Southampton next, who'll be well up for it. Nice to get back to winning ways.
Haha. After the final whistle you see Danny Rose say something to Bentaleb and point towards the Newcastle goal, then Bentaleb shrugs and starts tapping the top of his head. Was probably something along the lines of "How the **** did you miss that?"
Fair question. Absolute sitter. We were very wasteful in front of goal today. The fact that we still scored three just shows how poor Newcastle were. Carver should step down, really. It's getting a bit embarrassing for the poor bloke. Can't blame him for it, of course, but his time's up.
It was an okay performance really, Newcastle were terrible and we should really have stuck 4 or 5 past them, especially since the Eriksen goal as quite lucky. Pleased from a defensive point of view though, the goal aside we gave Newcastle nothing to go on, everything was dealt with well. Should've put the game to bed earlier but Krul made some good saves and we didn't finish our chances as well as we can. It's one of the few ocassions we've managed the game well though, we looked like we knew what we were doing for once. Congrats to Kane for getting to 30, incredible achievement and I was impressed with how he took the goal, didn't look like he ever worried about whether he'd score, 3 simple touches to put it into the back of the net. I'm claiming the assist for Lamela too
A merited win for the lads, but hey.,, Newcastle were utterly dire and offered nothing to their disgruntled fans. This performance will do nothing to ease the pressure on Ashley. The voices of the dissatisfied fans in the North East can be heard all the way up the Tyne, perhaps as far as Cumbria. Apparently my Newcastle supporting friend(s) are not, at all enamoured, by the attitude and more over, 'lack of ambition' being shown by club owner Ashley. One even expressed his disgruntlement in conversation to me by ''wanting the club to be relegated'' and why ? ''so as to force the current owners out''. I will sympathise with them other day..... today I don't care. COYS.
Fat Mike will have to dig deep into his wallet come summer time, or they'll be staring the Championship in the face this time next year!
Thought it was a very easy win over a very piss poor team...oh how they must now see how well pardew did with that dross! Hard to know how well we played as they were so poor but lamela was terrible throughout. .. really disappointed by his performance
I thought that Lamela still put the work in today, but made far too many mistakes defensively. He gave the ball away really easily on a number of occasions in dangerous areas and looked well off the pace. He hasn't played much for a while though, so he can claim rustiness. Still not good enough, obviously.
They won't have to dig too deep Spain. The club has already the money locked away in the coffers. But, the owner is apparently happy not to spend it., and also happy to finish mid table year after year. Much to the annoyance of the fans....apparently.
My only complaint is that I had a 2-1 Spurs win in both prediction leagues. That late final goal was unnecessary
Aren't Newcastle in an enormous amount of debt to Ashley, who consolidated all of their old debt into an interest free loan? Why this debt isn't being paid off via the profits that they make every year is a different question entirely, of course.
Exactly. Right or wrong, he will to a large extent be judged by his price tag. Does anybody see a £30mill player, or anything close?
I think Ashley is just spending enough to keep them ticking over in the Prem until the day that he deems it the right time to sell. Sad fact for Geordie fans is that he couldn't give a toss about the club, it's all about profit.
No. I don't think that we're getting the best out of him by playing him on the wing, though. He makes some good passes high up the pitch, closes down well, can take on individual players and has a decent shot. He's poor at tracking back despite the effort he puts in, makes risky passes and doesn't stretch the play out wide. I think he'd do far better in behind Kane. He's ineffective as a winger. The problem with that is that we've got about a million players who want to play there and it's Eriksen's best role, for me. Using him as back-up and competition for the Dane might be the best plan, if he's to stay for the next campaign. The problem is that nobody's taken either of our winger roles with any consistency.
There is indeed a stranglehold regarding the financial aspects of the club., The Newcastle fans are holding Ashley responsible. As I see it., 'he has the club in an 'Half Nelson', and won't let go.
