I think they worry more about their hairstyles than their performances!

By the way,I saw it mentioned that Ronaldo will earn $80 + million this year with pay and outside interests, while Messi will knock up $60 + million. Those amounts blow my head off being from the old school but in their case they probably deserve it.

I can recall the great Tommy Lawton having a couple of benefits long after his playing days were over because he couldn't make ends meet!He would be turning over in his grave seeing he was born to soon.

.......and...I wonder where Bobby Smith would be spending his millions today,if he was playing. He was always, apparently,on the phone to his bookie betting on dogs and horses. He'd probably be spending it in a London casino!

I love that story about Smithy,on the morning of the day Spurs completed the Double, going to see his doctor to get a shot for his dodgy leg, unknown to Bill.Must have worked because he scored once and made the second for Terry Dyson!

Oh those "good old days" when players hardly had a pot to p.. in!!!!!!?

I said something along these lines about Vince Lombardi, possibly the best NFL coach. There was a golden era for managers in between the time when only the biggest stars could make a life of being a sports star and the period when anyone who made the big leagues could set themselves up pretty well for life if they were smart and frugal. In that period, it really paid players to make the extra effort to win titles. Before that golden era, almost everyone would have to go on and work for a living. Afterwards, almost nobody really did, if they were smart. But in that period, a title winner in the NFL could get a car dealership, and those who didn't win titles turned a wrench. So it was much easier to motivate. There are much bigger, faster athletes in the NFL today, but nobody runs a play as crisply and passionately as the '66 Packers ran the sweep.
