Encouraging shooting on sight, which AVB may or may not have done, reduces our chances of quality chances but increases the stats of shots on goal. Stats! spit, puke, etc. Same old ****. We need to provide proper service to our strikers and explain to Townsend the most effective way to serve the team. It would also be nice if Adebayor was available for selection as well. We seem determined to take two steps back for every one forward when it comes to strikers.
It is a bit weird though. If he is aiming at the goalie he is being very accurate. If not why do so many go straight at him It's a mystery
It is one of the things that I'd expect a 'scientist' like AVB to know though: something associated with helping you make the right decision if you are in a particular place on the pitch. There must be an area where the chance of scoring from a shot increases to the point where it is generally much better to shoot than pass.
Magnets I think it looks more like his decision making at fault. Often he'll shoot when a shot's not on meaning he often doesn't have much of the goal to aim at and they're probably a bit rushed too. He's fast with his feet but he needs to start seeing passes and making decisions faster too. There was a noticeable change where he started passing more after some of the early games in the season but he never seems to spot a pass other than the obvious and whilst it might be greed it could also be that he just doesn't see any other passes/opportunities on. There was a chance in the second half on Sunday when he was heading through to goal with Soldado busting a lung to get into the box. There was a ball on to Soldado but it wasn't the easiest, then again the shot he had on wasn't the easiest either and he pretty much had to go for power to have a chance of scoring. Krul ended up having to parry the shot but as the shot was up in the air so the parry looped away and it made it impossible for Soldado to score the follow up without Krul making a bad error. The best option for us to score from that situation would've been for Townsend to hit his shot towards the far post and low down, Krul would have no choice but to go to ground and parry it away with Soldado lurking. It's something you see a lot and I'm sure Townsend knows what he should do there too which is why I'm not so sure he's actually aware of other players movements a lot of the time when he's on the ball.
Some good spots in there YV, I'm not sure that he plays with his head up that much anyway, and like you say awareness only seems to be the 10yd arc straight ahead. So for the likes of Soldado, unless he plays close to Andros he's unlikely to be fed, and I think he knows that, body language during games at such situations you mention says it all with the throwing of arms and shaking his head. I've seen AT take plenty of shots without looking up at the goal too. In not doing that he can't have any idea where the keeper is, relying on percentages, but if it goes in the pundits wax lyrical about "he didn't even look up, he knows where the goal is that lad, brilliant!", its a shame they don't notice the other dozen attempts like that, that just generally lose possession. He's an exciting player, its there, but I wonder if Harry's 'go do what you want' approach maybe in his head still, dunno, just a thought. Not that there's anything wrong with that and there is room in the side for such a player such is the cover we have behind now, but he's a little way off being that player. I'd like to hear from the player how the forward coaching differs from Spurs to England (not that you ever will), when I've heard our own Les speak in depth on forward play, he knows his stuff and communicates it pretty well, so hopefully he can improve AT. For England, Neville is the right bloke to improve his tracking back and help the RB, not sure on the forward aspect though, but you'd like to think he'd pick up something different from whoever's doing that.
Considering the tactics utilized and the man-management skills employed....... maybe Adebayor is keeping as far away from AVB as possible....... maybe he just wants to get as far as possible away from AVB.
What I think I've noticed is that occasionally Townsend shoots after getting up a head of steam, and it's a very dangerous ball, though one often well wide. But he also takes "routine" shots, which are never struck hard enough to score, and always, it seems, go straight at the keeper. Why he keeps taking these shots I don't understand. I've seen us look good every once in a good long while playing the slow buildup style. It happens when we look like we're in no rush, and keep passing it around the perimeter until there's an opening...for Gylfi, as a general rule. He has the best foot of anyone on the team, even though I agree he tends to go missing, which is strange because he does so while working hard. But the main thing is that Bale was at his best from about five yards outside the box after a run. Gylfi's at his best from the same spot from a standing start. So if we do keep playing that static style (and I hope we don't) we need to have Gylfi on the field.
one of them games guys ..that's all I say ..( im a toon fan ) and watched the game .. wouldn't worry just time to gel that's all ..big change around .. I watched dembele play for a good few years now and he is class..would have him anyday ... as for soldado never rated him as a top class player ..told me son that when yous signed him .. ok maybe good for tap ins but to slow and no skill for me .. he may prove me wrong but doubt it ...best of luck
Could be yours in January if his supposed comments are anything to go by. With the first few months of last season aside, it's fair to say Dembele has been a massive let down for £15m. Soldado isn't actually that slow to be honest, he's not Usain Bolt by any means but he can actually move his legs in a fairly fast forward motion unlike some of the strikers we've had in the past (Pav, Crouch).
I would take dembele anytime .. really admire him .. maybe should be played nearer the strikers ...that's where I would have him ...seemed to be holding against us ..which really yous should of beat us ..lol if it wernt for our keeper .. was great for fullham , good international . seen him play well against big clubs ..cant quite put me finger on it why he aint doing that well for yous .. times needed .. for your team anyway ..
