To put in perspective Utd are in the top 3 teams in the country put together for the GNP of a small country and we matched up to them in their own back yard. Losing unluckily but could easily have won.
Indeed. Let's not forget that we've been competing against a couple of teams in recent times that is by any definition unfair competition. Chelski and Citeh simply don't have to comply with any normal sort of accounting practice, and have had massive cash injections to be where they are which is nothing to do with ability. So Citeh don't have any good wing backs? No problem, buy someone elses, and spend a fortune knowing that UEFA will never pick them up for their dodgy accounting. People often say you have to be in the champions league to have the finances to compete with these teams but actually you need more than that. The Citeh's and PSGs of this world have income over and above anything they could legitimately earn from the CL, so really you can never compete with them financially. But what really winds me up is that we don't get enough credit for being as good as we are without that unlimited financial backing. If he wins the league someone like Guardiola will get manager of the year when in fact there is no excuse not to win the league with those sorts of resources.
The level of depression after losing narrowly at Old Trafford speaks volumes about how far we have come, stacked up against the fact that our closest rivals have lost to the likes of Watford, Huddersfield and Palace. We'll be fine lads. Fear not.
If Sanchez wasn't going to play in this game, then why didn't he feature in the midweek match? Injury?
That was true until the recent deluge of money into the PL. It also explained why the Goons needed their 4th place Cup for so long, as without the CL lucre they would have been eating into Kroenkes' precious cash reserves to service their wage bill.
Suffered depression my entire life. Currently taking enough medication to treat a blue whale. If you need anything please PM me.
Didn't mean it as a personal dig at you mate, nor at anyone for that matter. I meant is as a compliment. In years gone by we would've been delighted with a 1-0 defeat at OT. The fact that we are now bitterly disappointed with such results is the best possible reflection of how far we've come under Poch. I will say - and again, this isn't specifically directed at you - that there is little point dreaming of winning the title this season given the Wembley factor. I feel that some people got a bit carried away with themselves after the Pool match. The true litmus test of 'have we broken the hoodoo' is just around the corner in the shape of 2 double decker buses; one driven by Woy Hodgson the other by Tony Pulis.
Two games running now that our usually reliable defence has let us down. It was a terrible goal to concede by any side's standards let alone ours. Made even worse by the fact it was an utterly dreadful game of football, which is to be expected when facing a Jose side. Thought way too many underperformed. Davies and Aurier offered little from the wingback roles (would've brought Tripps on to try and knock some crosses into Nando). Winks played it too safe, he's a great passer of the ball but plays too many unnecessary short passes, I want to him to take more risks and go for some killer through balls as he has the technique to do so, maybe sit him in a room and have him watch clips of when Modric was here. Sissoko had a 16/17 season performance. Son was a non-entity. Dele was absolute dog **** and **** knows how he was kept on for 90 mins. Eriksen's passing wasn't as good as usual but Dele should've finished his one brilliant pass. On the whole just a disappointing performance and result. Got absolutely mashed last night too, drinking in the local from 12pm through til 01:30 was probably not a good idea but felt great at the time to help drown the sorrows. Anyways, bring on Wednesday, we're due a glory glory night again in Europe.
Alli's form is a cause for concern. Just drifts around the pitch looking like he can't be arsed. Such a contrast to the player who busted a gut week in week out. The one comfort is that he had a similarly poor start to last season. But he seriously needs to pull his finger out or the £150m we'd likely get for him could start to look mighty tempting come the summer.
Looking at that Palace goal. and I am going to go full <Spurcat> and suggest the solution is for him to have a shorter haircut.
Would agree with much of that DH, although harsh on Ben D who had a decent game and did at least try to get crosses in when FL came on. Trouble was that the service to the flanks was too slow which meant he was often closed down. Winksy was fine first half, but deffo ran out of puff after 55-60 mins and his contribution after that was very limited. Oh well, no better game coming up to put things right!! Hopefully, Dele will bring his 'A' game along and not the petulant twatishness - trying too hard to make up for missing the return fixture!
