Which will look like...
I think you do have to accept that Beni will do things differently. He's a tremendous threat down the left with great flair, who can control some excellent right-sided players completely. He's also a pretty bold gambler who'll get caught out from time to time. I missed him in our late-game collapse period particularly. Everyone seemed desperate to frantically boot the ball down field on the rare occsions they touched it, while Beni always dribbles it out and takes away pressure. Even if it does cost us a goal or three a season, it's worth it to take us off the back foot so often.
FA "Dear Sir Alex, did you make unsubstantiated accusations of bias against a referees assistant, comments that were not only totally unjustified, but likely to cause unrelenting media attention on the official? Bacon Face "Aye - what of it?" FA "Absolutely nothing at all Sir Alex. Thanks for taking the time to put us straight". That'll tell him!! Anyone see a different outcome?
I totally agree RWAEB Benny's top drawer for me, but even by Benny's standards, that 10 mins was a little frightening. He was rusty and it showed!
I think we can allow him that Roo, coming in from a long lay off against the number one team in the league. A little later he laid on the pass that led to Dempsey's goal.
And it really shows up the gulf in class between the top of the PL and the rest: Benny didn't look particularly rusty in 90 mins against Coventry.
He's scored a few nice goals too. So happy the BAE and Bale combo is back. If you like your torrents, the game can be found here.
Whilst I do have my reservations about Benny's defensive awareness, I think allowances have to be made for the situation we were in when he came on. It was late in the game and we were behind. In those circumstances, I can well imagine that his instructions were to push forward and help to try and retrieve the situation - which, with the aid of a wayward punch from De Gea, he did.
I don't think there was much chance of misinterpretation. His comments, I would have thought, were pretty unambiguous. Clearly, for reasons known only to them, the F.A. feel differently. Unless of course you are insinuating some deference on the part of the authorities to old bacon chops?
The Standard referred to Benny as our second-choice left back when comparing our options off the bench to MUPLC's. Words fail me...
