Henry winter on talk sport at around 1.25pm today on the Hawksby and Jacobs show was nearly crying. A. "It is outrageous, VAR was not brought in for things like this" B. "We should be talking about how wonderful city played...30 attempts on target." C. "Spurs players didn't even appeal." Just a few points. A. VAR WAS brought in for exactly this sort of thing ... the referee missed a handball which directly led to a goal so it was a clear and obvious mistake. If you have an issue with the handball laws, that's understandable but funny how None of those whining at the moment were equally outraged at the stupidity of the handball laws when it led to that absurd penalty against us in the CL final. The hypocrisy is impressive. B. City DID NOT have 30 attempts on target...you are supposed to be a professional sports journalist not a wum on not606. Funny how we got lucky beating Villa 3-1 with 30 attempts on their goal but city were unlucky not to beat us when they had 30 attempts on our goal. C. City players did not appeal for that stupid penalty they were given against us in the CL when the ball hit Danny Rose on the arm but that was never raised. Players appealing or not appealing does not mean the rules of the game should be ignored. I would love to be paid to chat ****e...I'd be rich from my contributions on here
All this "didn't appeal" stuff is pure bollocks. Alderweireld appealed for the Villa handball and it didn't matter. Why does the reverse make any difference? I'm yet to watch the MOTD highlights, but I suspect that the de Bruyne dive will go the same way as that handball did. We get a week talking about a decision that correctly went our way and can't spare 10 seconds for something that incorrectly went against us. Edit: Just watched it and I was right. Shearer ****ed off about de Bruyne and the dive went missing.
Well, that was a great weekend, so far as i'm concerned. Comparable to that 2-1 win at Anfield on 16th August 2009 (which I watched, sitting alone in a bar in Menorca... the waiter had never heard of Spurs...... I bet he has now!!!). And yes, my birthday (81st) was last Friday, 16th August. Great to discover that I share that date with Moussa Sissoko - not to mention vimhawk, and that rocky blue army and Changing Man are in this fraternity, too! We Leos - not just natural leaders, but also very discerning on choices of football teams. And to crown it all, we put the wind up the Aussies for once, and got pretty close to winning an Ashes Test. (Yes, by the way, Elvis Presley's death was on our birthday - I heard it reported on the car radio while driving through California!***) Reminds me also to mention Madonna and Jeff Thomson as fellow-birthdayers. And the anniversary of the appalling Peterloo Massacre. I'm still on a bit of a high from all that. NO, NOT THE MASSACRE, THE FOOTIE AND CRICKET! *** They interviewed a florist in Memphis on the radio. Asked him if he'd had calls from all over the world. "Yes," he said, "from all over the world! From New York, from Boston, from Tucson, from Los Angeles, from Chicago, from Seattle....... from all over the world!!!!" I'm guessing at the exact place-names, of course, but you get the drift. Insular? the USA? what a suggestion! COYS!!!!!
The Daily Mail reports a lady Spurs fan was punched in the face by a City fan..she got a picture of him too! I thought only Chelsea fans do that sort of thing!
...of course, one set of fans just had to make themselves the victims in this Somebody may want to inform HIAG about that...
As to getting outplayed... Spurs did dominate the two periods when they were behind, IIRC. Therefore all Spurs need to do is imagine they're always behind, and they'll always be on top.
City were the better team and played some really nice football, but how many decent saves did Lloris make? The deflected Zinchenko one, one tipped over the bar and... that's about it. We scored twice and had one other "shot" and it was from our own half! Moura came on, scored immediately, murdered Zinchenko down the right and was then chucked out of position and disappeared.
