Our naive approach to the game annoyed me. City were always going to fly into this all guns blazing after the humiliation at Goodison and a worldwide write-off of their title chances. My other point of concern is how we have an excellent first XI, but even a single change to it seems to throw everyone and everything off balance. I'm willing to put that down to City being excellent in attack, but Jan being out injured should not have led to the mess at the back we witnessed throughout the entire game.
Citeh changed and upped there game today for sure, but we were below par as well and our midfield was bypassed too often. Combine that with Wimmers introduction unsettling the defence somewhat and we were always going to struggle. So to walk away with a point is a good day in my books. And listening to the Press ****-storm about the non-penalty is hilarious!!
No fair enough but Wimmer has been sidelined and it has to be very difficult to come in at this level against a team that on it's day are league winners. We have made a number of changes in past games with a positive effect but as I said this is a day when you have to give credit to the opposition although having said that they struggled to score and what would have happened if Loris had not made his out of character errors.
Citeh desperately needed to show something after Everton. I don't think MP saying we are a bigger club than them helped. I'd have used that in Pep's position. They were all turned up to 11 and we played like we do away in Europe for most of the game. However, I doubt they can do that too often whereas we'll not be that bad again this season. However, the players managed to turn it around and they get credit for that. Today's result isn't our problem, it's the earlier draws against WBA, Leicester, Everton, Bournemouth that are the problem.
Well after our result at Anfield it is obvious we need to make at least one transfer this window & following your game today you can expect a bid in the next couple of days for RCL PS entertaining game to watch unlike ours
I thought Mariner had a poor game, he started off by booking two of our players for nothing tackles and then went on to let off at least three City players from bookings for bad tackles that deserved a yellow. Then there was the push on Sterling and the handball for the first goal also. City came out fired up and put a lot of effort into pressing us in the first half, this meant their older legs tired somewhat in the last 30 mins, which helped us gain a way back into it. We were below our best, City threw everything at us and yet could not beat us, which is a good sign. A good result considering, it`s vital we do not lose to our rivals.
Looked to me as though Hugo headed the ball into Sane's upper arm from about 5 inches away. Given the speed at which the player was moving and the fact that he had jumped to block a potential screw-up, a handball there would've been as harsh as not giving a penalty for Walker's shove. Sorry if I sound like I'm defending City but let's not hide behind excuses. We were appalling for 94 minutes minus the 8 seconds it took to shoot twice
You've played all the current top 8 away (except Liverpool) and won none (4 draws, 2 defeats) Any conclusions to be drawn from this or is it just a meaningless stat? Chelsea have only played three games away to the top 8 - comprehensively beaten at Spurs and Arsenal and the smash and grab 3-1 win at City.
We got a point at City not playing well, that's very far from a bad result and we still scored the best two goals on the day.
Our record against the top sides used to be shocking. It seems to have leveled out over the past few seasons, with most results cancelling eachother out. City became a weird exception to this - they haven't beaten us in 4 games now. Last year, our record was: Chelsea DD Arsenal DD United LW City WW Everton DD Liverpool DD This year: United L City WD Liverpool D Arsenal D Chelsea LW Everton D ....So it's shaping up to be a pretty similar points gained to last season. We've definitely taken a huge step forward in this department though. Today's game is a case in point: we were utterly terrible yet still came away with a point. In years gone by we would've been humiliated.
I thought that too, but have not seen a replay, don`t expect it to be a topic of discussion throughout the media though if he was.
Regarding the Lloris mistakes. Had he not made them I think we probably wouldn't have even taken a point. They would have continued pressing , we would have continued being***** until they would have scored anyway when it would have been too late for us to get back in the game. Also they probably thought at 2-0 that they had won-who didn't- and allowed us back in.
