Really even game up to the penalty/sending off which could've gone either way.
Neither side were great defensively but I suppose if we are asking our teams to go out and attack, inevitably there will be holes left in behind for attacking sides to exploit on the counter, although I thought City worked harder off the ball to win it back with Capoue & Lamela in particular just not doing enough to help out to provide a shield for the centre backs and the exposed Dier.
Going forward I thought Spurs were as good as I've seen against us at the Etihad for a while, with the classy Eriksen and in particular Soldado far more impressive than I've previously given him credit for.
Coming away empty handed from the Etihad is hardly going to shape your season and however harsh the scoreline may have ended up I'm sure the tottenham fans returned South far more encouraged than after last seasons dire performance under the out of his depth AVB.
I'm led to believe Mason didn't do you any favours, not seen any replays yet,it's becoming a bit of a theme against Spurs over the last few fixtures between the sides, but I think City or Aguero did enough to deserve the win.

A defensive midfield player surely must be on Pochetinos January shopping list, with a really decent one top 4 shouldn't be wishful thinking especially if you can bring in someone who can finish off the chances that are being created

The old Spurs fan, after a loss, would come home.kick the cat and belt the wife.
Today's Spurs fan comes home, shrugs, says "we lost again.Where's the comics?"
I hope we are not getting like our players....

Are you talking about Ryan Mason, our midfielder, or did you mean Moss the ref?

To be honest, having seen the decisions again I think it was a case of one bad penalty call apiece. Soldado's was a couple of inches outside the area and Lampard's was a blatant dive. I personally think it's embarrassing to give the one that Fazio got sent off for, people use the term "pull" when describing these things but all he's done is tap his arm. It's a distraction thing and doesn't warrant a foul as defenders should always be allowed a bit of gamesmanship, in my opinion, and it doesn't actually obstruct the player, the player obstructs themselves by flopping to the floor. If that level of contact is a foul then there should be a penalty given at every corner and attacking set piece but that's a road we don't want to go down. That said, Dier got booked for it in the first half and gave a penalty away against Liverpool doing the same thing so we should've known what would happen and I have no complaints about that or the red.

My issue with the ref was the lack of consistency. Last week Kaboul got booked for a litterally identical shoulder barge to the one on Rose by Kompany(might've been 4-1 by then, I can't remember) yet we get nothing. You say that your midfield won the ball back better but I saw a lot of fouls committed in doing so. Again this comes down to lack of consistency, when touching someone's arm is a foul(like Fazio's) you set a very low bar for what constitutes a foul and it wasn't consistently applied across the game.

Anyway, you guys deserved to win, I thought we deserved a respectable score line with the way we played but the luck always deserts us against the top 4. Refereeing aside I thought it was a great game, how matches should be in the PL with both sides trying to score goals first and foremost. Much better than your game against Chelsea which I thought was an awful display of the cynical side of the game from both teams.

Always good to hear your thoughts on our games, good luck catching the Chavs, Mourinho's become insufferable already and it will only get worse if they run away with the league :(

MOTD analysis on Lampard's offside involvement for goal 1:

"Well, Lloris wasn't anywhere near saving it so I don't think it made a difference..."

    My brain hurts...

The funny thing is City had the same happen to them awhile ago. I think it might've been West Brom or someone and I remember Hart being livid but it was the same situation where it wouldn't have been saved. Personally I hate to see a good goal get disallowed out but the refs can't really start making calls on whether or not the 'keeper could save it, they struggle enough with applying even the simple rules as they are.

The MOTD also avoided calling Lampards penalty a dive, they're such spineless suck ups, never had a problem calling Bale a diver.

That was probably the most promising attacking perfomance ive seen from spurs since....before avb ?

Mason (who is a total ****ing revelation), chadli, eriksen, lamela, soldado, suddenly starting to look like theyve been playing togethor for years.

Please though Poch, can you tell lamela not to step foot the other side of the half way line in any circumstances:eek:k:

We've got three home games on the trot. Asteras Tripolis on Thursday, Newcastle on Sunday and then Brighton on the following Wednesday.
I expect to see the rotation continue in the cups, which might put Adebayor in against the Greeks.

The Greeks are a very weak minor provincial team from a club about the size of a Northampton .
In theory any team put out should dispatch them even if they have had some surprising results .

Morning, people. Only saw the first 20 mins, and we looked ok.
Was it a decent performance from then up to the sending off ??

Good to hear. Tis not the defeats that bother me most, but their manner.
It seems the boys acquitted themselves well.
I can have a look at the specific key events on MOTD etc accordingly.

Don't bother with MOTD-they are useless and don't tell the true story.

The opening goal was offside, the first penalty was wrong, the second penalty was correct, our penalty was just outside the box and their third was a penalty but not a red.
The Sagna handball should've been given, Rose could've had one at the end, though it would've been harsh and various cards and fouls were also clearly wrong.
Not a good day for the officials.

Fair enough, I think. We were starting with two second choice starters of our back four. Not the best time to break in a new CB pair, it could fairly be said.

I think Pochettino is doing well. 8 games in we’re outshooting City at the Ethihads, we’re playing attractive football, and our key players are almost all around 22. It’s significant that that three of our biggest worries are three of the older players: Ade, Soldado and Kaboul.
