If Kane's best position is being described as a no.10 pretty much, we're loaded with them already, and if we were to play two up top with one just off JD I'd rather see Lamela given that, I don't see any long term benefit of how Kane plays with him. We've got 3 maybe 4 who I'd rather see there first, but I do see the logic behind the discussion though. For me, he doesn't move the ball quick enough when I've seen him, I see him as a more measured player than instinctive, which doesn't help our slow build-up atm. Thats from what little I have seen, it'd be good to hear from one of the posters who's watched him regular over the years.
Kane's struck me as a useful squad player so far, with his best quality being versatility--he looks comfortable in any front four position, though he's nothing special in any of them. But he just scored his first goal, and there's no reason he couldn't make a habit of it. I wonder what the chances are of the exact same team as vs. Everton, which I think was Walker Dawson Chiriches Jan Sandro Paulinho Townsend Holtby Lennon Soldado 50/50?
Lawro has us down for a 2-0 defeat, try as hard as I can it's hard to see us winning it. Although we've come back from 2-0 down up there and were ahead 0-1 until the end and we beat them to go to the CL which gives me a glimmer of hope it's still a stretch of the brain.
I'd be very surprised if he were to start. A place on the bench, maybe. Perhaps he's considering playing with Defoe and Adebayor against Tromso and he wants to keep him on side? Not Defoe, of course, he's never onside! Still can't get my head around that.
Adebayor would probably play a blinder, just because City got rid of him then live off that performance for a year.
No one expects biblical accuracy from a predicted lineup, but the Telegraph has Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Chiriches, Vertonghen; Dembélé, Paulinho; Townsend, Sandro, Sigurdsson; Adebayor (!!!!!!!!!) If that's who we start, I'll fall off my chair. If we start Adebayor, I'll fall off my chair. It would be audacious, I'll give it that. If Adebayor scores a brace, AVB will look like a genius. If Adebayor gets a red card early on... Quite aside from anything else, it's been so long since Adebayor played a game, he can't be sharp, surely. I wonder if he'll remember what those square things at either end of the field are for.
Wouldn't it be nice if our old Spurs surprise us after the shock of the last two league games? But you never know.......
AVB says Ade might play tomorrow. "Ade,Defoe and Soldado are very close to each other. There is no reason not to trust Soldado and Defoe BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN EXCELLENT." What is he saying? Excellent? Now I know this man is blind and hasn't a clue. I called him the best young coach in the PL and I may have to rethink. What crap.
Managers don't always tell the whole truth, TMT. No reason to knock the confidence of two strikers who are struggling a bit. The problem isn't about what they're doing wrong, anyway. It's the system and lack of service. The supply to the front man simply hasn't been good enough. Not enough width and nobody getting close to the forward. Nobody's been going past whoever is up top, either.
Please don't play Ziggy as I have never noticed him on the pitch when he is playing (except for those 2 goals) . Sluggish, mediocre technic, goes missing , can't get around a player but occasionally scores the odd goal. Lets play someone with true quality if not a little lightweight , Llamela.
For great swathes of seasons past Defoe has struggled PNP not just this one and he's not doing it properly even now is he? There's talk of two other clubs interested in him and he says Defoe has been excellent, if that's so why sell him in January. I don't think that he is boosting the confidence of players PNP, I think he's just contradictory by nature. Also what's wrong with Soldado going to look for the ball as I've seem many strikers do? Sorry PNP but at the moment I'm not sympathetic.
I wouldn't read too much into managers comments as the majority of managers praise a players ability before he is sold, incase they remain with the club.
I can't say your comment is unfair, exactly, since I've seen much the same thing. But if we continue to play with a slow buildup, he's the one player we have who looks at all likely to score, because he's the one player with a foot that's both powerful and accurate enough to score from long range other than by chance (not to mention having a better sense of when to break for the goal.) So either we should play as we did against Newcastle in the second half, or start Gylfi. The one time I thought we looked like we knew what we were doing with the slow buildup, we made about a dozen passes outside the box, all seemingly with the aim of giving Gylfi a good shot or cross. When he took it, it took a great save from the keeper. It would be a risk to play him against Man City, as we'd be a lot less likely to give up goals with speed on the outside, as with Lennon and Townsend. On the hand, I think starting him would make it considerably likelier we score.
If Sig's only contribution is shots from distance i don't think he'll get much joy against Pantaloonman who's 6ft5 is it? and quite a good shot stopper, doesn't always get his angles right with players running at him though.
Toure has been a beast this season, Aquiro is on fire and they play free flowing attacking football at home...the best I see is a defeat by 2 goals...at worst I can see us being battered if we start badly. Ade to start...he played half a good game last season v chelsea (where he was shocking for the first 20 mins until he scored) but has done nothing else since Harry left. If it were me I would play Lloris; walker; dawson; chireches; vertongen; Lennon; sandro; Holtby; townsend; lamela; Defoe dembele. soldado and paulinio are all off form so should be dropped regardless of how much they cost and Ade should not be anywhere near the first team in my opinion ... 1 good performance in 16 months don't warrant it
I would snap hands off for a draw here, Silva and Kompany are missing which may help Spurs but City are on fire at home. No doubt that little scroat Nasri will have a positive impact on the game for City at some stage.
