The absolute first is to denote the ON FIELD LEADER. It has to be CM or a defender. Not the GK. Not the strikers. Somebody has to be given the opportunity to step up and become a true team captain, because currently the teams have the cajoling/rallying powers of a wet lettuce.
Trippier, Rose, Winks, Sissoko, Lloris would all get nowhere near the starting XI of the 2 teams battling for the title. That is the standard that must now be met and to have 5 out of 11 players nowhere near that standard is a huge problem. Not sure why you think we have progressed when all evidence suggests otherwise. The issue isn't simply that we have regressed but that the teams we are chasing have improved insanely in the interim.
Played surprising well on the whole, against a club going for the prem title. We should have won it IMHO. Sissoko spoiled what could have been the icing on the cake.. how did he miss that.. I would've scored.... you could've score.... my aunt May's shot would've needing saving... but Sissoko !!!,..... Sissoko 'what happened man ???'. I still can't workout how the ball got all up in the sky like that. Lloris should have done much better and for a player of the upmost ability, that feeble parry (leading to their late winning) was dreadful. I've not seen Lloris do that non-sense before. Why does he feel he has to start doing siht now.... awful.. dreadful. Lloris, why did you do that ?. I've lost touch with the amount of times I've praised these two players this season. They really are amongst the best in the world., but today I feel for them. That said., we will win more then we lose and these same players will come good again this term. COYS
But we can be thought of as a sweet team. We have given Liverpool 6 points and ,so far 3 to City which will probably be 6 by the end of the season. Are we going to let City run over us in the CL as well? BETTER NOT!
That's a game I don't play CK because these are different teams and equally they have players we wouldn't want. The argument is, how far away from Liverpool as a team are we? On the evidence of today not very far. Quoting the whole season is again not taking into account all the circumstances that arose during the course of it. From injuries, to Wembley, to times between games, to decisions of officials. It's far too simplistic to just quote a number of players and say they are not good enough. As always it's worth remembering that football is a team game and they can become greater than the sum of their parts. We have a great manager and the basis of a great team. The club is moving in the right direction and I am full of hope, so ya boo sucks! to the pessimists
The good news is that all the plastics taking up seats at the new lane will feck off when we finish in the EL places so me and my girls might get a feckkng ticket
We certainly played better 2nd half although that was assisted by Pool tying up with nerves. I thought some of Kanes work and passing was exceptional. But he's our main striker and he didn't have a chance in the game IIRC. I thought Rose was much better for 70 minutes but then got overconfident, dribbling out and losing possession. Sissoko does so much really good work and so often leads the breakaways. But FFS Moussa, what the actual feck were you thinking.... (it was like watching Zakora all over again ) TBF Van Dyck played it perfectly preventing the pass to Son) Trippier is all over place and couldn't even deliver a decent cross. But Hugo gets my Twat of the Day award. Not just for the spill to cause the og, but a more positive keeper could probably have come to claim the lobbed cross in the first place. Add in a couple of ridiculous misplaced clearances and you have a really poor keeping performance. We should and could have won. We didn't. Palace game will be tough and no pressure on them, so really concerned how that may go. Anything less than 3 pts = Ropey League 2019/20 - unless we win the CL of course
Another standard Spursy defeat, we deserved at least a draw out of that game and possibly even more. Individual errors once again costing us, how many more times is this going to happen. It is so frustrating, we have the core of a very good team but are constantly let down at vital moments by a few inconsistent and error prone players. Today highlighted some of our weaknesses, we need better quality defenders at full back, more ability in front of goal from midfield and Lloris to cut out his brain farts. We gifted The Dippers 3 points in a game we should of won, this Spursyness is all too familiar, we`ve all seen it many times before. City are head and shoulders the best team in the PL, and it will be a travesty if they don`t win the league again. Pool are hanging onto them, but only through a never ending supply of good luck and their usual favour from the officials.
I'd give David Howells a call after his performance yesterday and see if he wants a contract until the end of the season, he'd grill these lads into shape and add the bite and leadership we're desperately craving.
I've said it before and I'll say it again A big part of the problem is fans who like to celebrate mediocrity...it filters into the ethos of the club. Now let's remember we are not midtable fodder...the next logical step for us is obviously a problem in taking...so let's just admit it instead of harping on about the 90's and how dross it was back then
Poch calling the players "heroes" for reaching the final 7 games with a top 4 finish still on the cards. And THAT, my friends, is why this group will never win anything.
You asked how far away we are from Pool and tried using a narrow loss today to indicate the gap isn't big. I'd say 18 points indicates there's a huge gap in quality/ mentality between the two. I'm not sure what else to the point there is.
Please explain how 4 defeats and a draw is "heroic". And please try not to begin your argument with "If we'd known at the start of the season that...". Last 5 games, that's all. The manager himself has gone from talking about our title chances to talking about how 4th place would make us "heroes". Maybe I am as stupid as I look, but something doesn't add up.
I have say that one of the best moments in the game was seeing Sonny looking after his teammate after Sissoko fecked up the chance. Good to see - just wish it hadn't been needed
I repeat what I said earlier the circumstances of each teams league games have been different. You just cannot look at football and compare it to a digital game. It involves real people and real circumstances which you glibly ignore as if it is of no consequence. It's the difference between fans and managers. Are you saying that Spurs could not have won today? I don't see that at all. But for a smidgen of luck we would have at least drawn and should IMO have won at THEIR ground. That's enough for me to say that there is not much between these teams. That's football, it's not a science.
