This game was lost in the board room. We had first shout on Mane but refused to meet his wage demands.
No, its down to losing verts and rose on the left, but hey ho, I've still seen your lot play a lot worse.
All week there's been talk of us being in a title race. Kane's said it. MP said it. I heard Eriksen doing it. Why for God's sake? We're nowhere near Chelsea and facing one of our direct rivals away from home. Just shut the **** up and play the game. That's the second game we've lost by more than goal in the last 2 seasons, the other being 5-1 at newcastle. Frankly, the only reason we wouldn't have seen a repeat of that result is that if we'd played all night, we'd not have scored a goal. Totally dog **** from start to finish. Kyle Walker played well. I think that was it.
All the 'experts' will now be saying Liverpool are back to their best, but we were just awful and gifted them two goals. How long before Lamela is back. Even if he is only at 90% he will improve our performances. On the subject of performances Taylor's was down there with worst of them for his complete lack of consistency. If Walker's throw-in was a foul throw, all of Milner's were and Winks booked for a non tackle. Not as bad as Clattenberg earlier though
We've got the best team and manager we've had in years. These performances and results happen to everyone. What I still can't get my head around, is how we see these obvious mistakes from poch, 5,6,7 times a season. We were set up wrong from the start, and made the wrong subs at the wrong times. - how often have we said that?! I know I'm like a broken record, but with our current personnel, 4231 doesn't work anymore, IMO. Much like Leicester have been found out this season, so has that formation of ours. It is nothing short of suffocating and exposes all of our weaknesses, disabling us to play our attacking game. Liverpool are very strong going forward, but to stop their relentless attacking, at some point you have to take the game to them and give them something to think about. We did **** all in 90 mins. If rose is out, we need pace on the left. Not only does a lack of pace on that side give us no attacking presence, but it also cripples walker on the right. With the pace out wide non existent, the front 4 are completely disconnected. I really hope we don't play this formation in the prem again. It may work in Europe or cup competitions, but it's been ages since I've seen a decent convincing performance using that formation. Anyways, we move on. Well done to Liverpool, they knew exactly how to to take advantage of us and did so in style. COYS
Davies and Dier were exposed today. I had my doubts about about their top premiership club credentials from the beginning. Neither one was at the races at all today, and both looked several paces of the pace. Which leaves Pochettino in a bit of a predicament.
Yeah you have to give credit to Liverpool. At the end of the day the best I was hoping was a draw so I only really see it as a point dropped at worst.
We've lost 3 games all season. Against 3 of the best teams in the league, all away from home. What has let us down this season - as it did last season - has been our inability to put the 'smaller' teams away when we face a parked bus for 85 minutes. If come the end of the season I look at the 'L' column and those three games are all that I see, I will be delighted. But when I glance at the 'D' column, I will be disappointed to see so many, against such inferior opposition. The switch to 352 looks like a solution to that problem. HOWEVER, it only works when our starting XI are ALL fit and available to play. Lack of squad depth has let us down this season. Of course, no-one anticipated the extent of the injury plague that has hit us this term, but at the same time we all anticipated the fact that Sissoko would add nothing to the squad, that GKN would in all likelihood be a waste of an entire summer (as are most players imported from the vastly inferior French league), and that Janssen would take time to settle. We played today without 3 of our best players on the pitch, and all of them happen to be left footed. Oh, and Mane happens to play down the right flank. I can understand people shouting for us to play 352 but Wimmer clearly isn't trusted anymore by the manager and with the greatest respect but GKN has shown no indication that he can function as a wing-back against any team - let alone one of the strongest in the league on their own patch. Why on earth would we risk an out of form CB next to an untested wing-back just to experiment with 'something different'? The only player on the bench today who I would trust to actually improve on what we currently have is Winks. But where does he fit in? Who would we drop to accommodate him? Our focus now has got to be to knuckle down, dig deep and secure a top 4 finish. Get Jan, Erik and Danny back after the cup games, switch back to 352 and finish the season strongly. And come the summer, to realise lessons that should've been learned in 2011: Quality over quantity. Stop signing unproven players for the sake of it, then insult us by breaking the bank for **** like Sissoko and expect it all to work out just fine.
It was their cup final. Out of all the cups and no league win since last year. Mane is so key for them. They had to get a result and they did.
'You saw a team that is not ready to fight for the Premier League' Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham please log in to view this image Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "They were better than us and fully deserved to win. We started the game very sloppy. "It is difficult to understand, I am very disappointed in our first-half display. Second half we reached their level but it is really late. "The whole team were poor. It is about balance and today it was poor, that is the truth. "We are in a position that is up to us. But if you show like today that you cannot cope with the pressure to play to win the league then it is difficult to challenge and fight for the Premier League. "In the first 45 minutes you saw a team that is not ready to fight for the Premier League." "I think you can see on the pitch in the first half we were poor. "It was difficult to achieve the same intesity as Liverpool. They were better. I have nothing to say, nothing to complain about. It is true we are one point above them in the table but today we didn't show that. "I am not angry. Sometimes you do not play in the way you want and we need to analyse and be calm."
Rather painful and so insipid. The league was never happening as our squad is paper thin of the quality of the chavs/city but it's nice to dream . The bench so lightweight that you live in hope . We once again were out fought, bullyed, out pressed , and out played against a Klopp team . We played into their hands as usual . However realistically Poch has done a marvellous job on the resources provided to him . Any way chin up and l be hoping the little lady leaves her teeth in tonight as that is a sign I'm on a promise if l play my cards right. Keep it up Sid on a wing and a pray .
CK It is the transfer policy that Levy has used that has enabled us to build the current squad, which is our best for many years and at the same time build a new stadium, without ending up in huge debt. We are not Man United we cannot spend 100million on a player and pay him 250,ooo a week. Even going for these so called top players does not give you 100% success rate with new sighnings, nobody gets that. Let's not lose all perspective because of this result.
I'm not getting drawn into a cyclic debate about this again. I actually think my post was quite positive by my own Scrooge-like standards I agree with everything you've just said. But we can afford to splash the cash every now and then. The worrying thing is that whenever we do, we make a total pig's ear of it. I'm not sure how anyone can argue with that. Let's leave it at this: obviously hindsight is an amazing gift, but in all honesty we sold Chadli and Mason and replaced them with inferior players. Wasted 2 months chasing a clone of Njie, and only signed one player as back-up for Kane. A young player from an inferior league. Wanyama was our only good signing for good reason - and it has nothing to do with cost so please don't put that spin on my argument - he had PL experience and wasn't 19 years old. Simple as that. If you think we need United's levels of finance to scout and sign players with PL experience who aren't teenagers, fair enough. I don't. I think we need a large dose of humility and a little bit of common sense.
