One of the reasons I trust Poch is that he doesn't make many changes during games. It is actually impossible to get enough extra data during a single game to overturn the data you made the selection decisions on. What happens in the first half is no guide to what will happen in the second half!
Except when the opposition play a totally different formation than he was expecting, or they change their formation because Spurs are leading, particularly at half time. I think if he has a fault, he doesn't react quickly enough to opponents changes, a bit like a driver in F1 losing the lead due to the 'undercut'.
Which is exactly what happened in this game. Lamela was dominant in the first half, as Leicester allowed him a ton of time and space, which he used effectively. They dealt with that at the break and he was far less damaging, but we didn't adjust until the score had been turned around completely.
I agree that you should consider changes in those circumstances but I don't recall too many instances.
That doesn't make sense to me. It just says Leicester played badly in that respect in the first half and we took advantage. They sorted it out in the second half....whst should we have changed to nullify that?
They nullified our game, so we needed to switch things up to regain the advantage. We didn't do so and it cost us in the end, as they got back into the game and then won it. Pochettino's making decisions that aren't working. He's playing people out of position and sticking with a system that isn't effective. He thinks that Moura is a striker and that Sanchez can play at right-back. We finally turned up against Palace by going back to previously successful methods. Why has he gone back to the diamond since?
And then stuck with it when that space disappeared. He also nullified Son by using him as a striker and gave Maddison enough space to score by introducing Wanyama, who is miles off the pace.
We created two very good chances because Lamela being marked gave Winks and Son more room. Perhaps Son would have been onside if we hadn't been using the diamond......nothing against you personally PnP but you are making the common failing of making selections from the data which support your position. I've got no idea why Wanyama was brought on though.
I'm calling it based on what we've seen over the past 9 months. The diamond doesn't work. Sanchez isn't a right-back. Moura isn't a striker. Pochettino isn't getting results this year.
In all honesty unless you are refereeing at premier league level and using VAR, phases of play are irrelevant as in all other football (Championship down to Sunday morning) the lino puts up his flag the decision is given when the offside occurs. You could argue 2nd phase for Kane's cross but as they just explained its up to the VAR ref to decide the phases so as it was us it was all one phase
And he's a **** pundit that's only relevant because of his record as a player and he failed as a manager. Must be nice to get paid for stating the obvious.
That is one of the most obvious handballs I have ever witnessed. I was watching the game live at the time and just laughed when it wasn't given. There really is no other reaction short of putting your foot through the screen. VAR is a joke.
