I don't think Trippier is far off having as many assists already than Walker did all of last season. The runs out wide he made helped at times but ultimately our players are good enough to create danger regardless of a marauding full back, the problem however has been that there's too many out of form. As for Rose, he's been diabolical since his return, after the comments he's made coupled with this sort of form, I'd actually welcome Utd bidding £40m in January. Davies had a immense start to the season too, the form - like others - has dipped in recent weeks though.
It’s not about Trippier’s assists though, we all know he’s got a great cross. It’s the overall 90 minute game, where he could be holding wide and slipping a ball onto a runner, or making a run in preparation for a through ball. We miss that athleticism that kept the opposition on the back foot and created central space.
I don't expect us to be winning the league and like you say we definitely achieve better than what we should when considering stature and budget. All I ever ask for though is just effort and commitment yet over the past few games (CL excluded) we've not been getting that. We've managed to build an exceptional side but too many of these players in recent weeks have been in holiday mode.
Let's see if this works... I don't want to see a couple of our players slap their foreheads, loudly exclaim "THERE'S the net!" and put the sodding ball in it.
They're two completely different players though. Trippier doesn't rely on speed, he relies on receiving the ball in a wide area to then deliver what is usually a great cross, he's not going to beat his marker much, if at all. Walker relied on his speed to get in behind or get back to defend. I think it's somewhat pointless trying to compare the two because although they play the same position, they have completely different strengths.
Fair enough, but I’m just of the opinion that Trippier’s strengths are no where near as valuable over a 90 minute game to suit our style.
This is exactly why I said about not relying on Dembele. Essentially when chasing a goal he should be key for driving runs forward and yet again, not long after an hour, he's taken off. We 100% need a new CM in January.
