Regardless of who I think should start, what I really want is an ironclad commitment (from haha the FA and hahahhahahahahaha FIFA) to quit crippling the goose that lays the golden eggs and ban competitive matches occurring more than three times in two weeks (or so). No sport has anything like the number of chronic injuries and perpetually crocked players as football. The problem isn’t just that schedulers blithely make players play four times in 12 days--though, surely, three times in 2 weeks is about the maximum players can stand without drastically increasing their risk of injury). It’s that football of all sports can’t be played at the top level with the least little thing in the way of an injury. Baseball players can and do hit forty home runs a year without being able to run properly. Forty year olds lumber up and down NBA courts. But anything resembling a limp or a problem changing direction prevents a football player from being effective.
We could so use with someone like Defoe right now, he'd have been ideal to both make an impact when required and pass knowledge on to Kane to aid his development (just hopefully nothing with the offside rule though ).
.. your guess is a good one .. expect wholesale changes ..two of England's finest young talents Ben Chilwell and Demerai Gray likely to start .. I'm expecting 7 perhaps 8 changes from last league outing. ..
Leicester City: Schmeichel (c), De Laet, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Chilwell, Inler, Kanté, King, Dyer, Ulloa, Gray. Subs: Drinkwater, Morgan, Albrighton, Simpson, Okazaki, Mahrez, Schwarzer.
Looks a pretty good team to me and a strong bench for if things are going pear shaped . Would have liked to have seen benteleb get a game, not a massive fan of his, but he could use some game time.
Pretty happy with that team although I would've given Bentaleb a start over Dier. Delighted that Vorm has been given a chance to make amends for last year's bloopers, shows faith in the wider squad. Good to see Wimmer getting a start and absolutely ecstatic for Josh - that lad is a talent. Big games needed from Eriksen and Chadli, both need to make statements.
No different from what I would have picked, except for the presence of Dier and Eriksen. No Mahrez for Leicester, so both clubs are resting their biggest guns. I don't know if the upcoming PL match had anything to do with that, but it does suit both clubs to run out the whole squad in two games against each other, other things being equal. And insofar as they aren't, it ought to be to our advantage. It will be interesting to see Leicester's reserves, since it ought to provide some insight into their prospects this year. Fosse certainly thinks highly of a couple of them.
We have three players who really could have done with a rest; Kane, Ericksen and Dier. Only Kane rested is a bit of a disappointment. I would have selected Bentaleb for Dier. Ericksen has looked off the pace recently and his selection today indicates to me that he may be rested on Wednesday.
Any thoughts of Danny Rose as captain? Longest serving player, I think. Not sure it's ideal. Not a fan of attacking fullbacks in that role and he's a bit hotheaded.
I Wonder if Eriksen will be left out on Wednesday Very slow start by both teams...not a great surprise given the changes by both teams
Lots of early possession, but little in the way of threat. Nice touch by Rose and a semi-decent cross. Nobody near it, though.
Schmeichel getting a lot of stick by the commentators, but I think that Chadli's shot had a deflection. Probably put him off enough to make the clearance difficult.
