Anyway Dona come lately, it was a great result and performance. At least Bale will have a rest and hopefully we won't miss him too much. also it means he has no cards hanging over him for the next match.
So just got back from the Lane. Lets be honest, that's one of the easiest wins, if not THE easiest win we've had all season. Inter were woeful, to think only 3 years ago they were lifting the Champions League is amazing, granted they had injuries but even so... Very surprised we kept Bale/ Dembele/ Parker on the pitch after the third went in, the game was over and Inter never looked like mounting a comeback. They had one genuine attempt and Friedel dealt with it brilliantly. On the whole, solid performance, weren't even out of 2nd gear which was nice as hopefully the players were conserving energy for Liverpool. Don't really think there was a stand out performer/ MOTM. Bale, Gylfi, Parker, Dembele, Vertonghen, Gallas all had good games. MAYBE Parker edges it. Well done Spurs
I wanted a fourth just to be sure. No Bale concerns me but now is the time for the team to show us what it can do without him.
Just got back from my regular late night walk and thought I'd give TalkShite a chance again, which I do from time to time (and usually regret it). However for the first few minutes I was presently surprised - more Spurs callers than I've ever heard on that station, which as some of you will know seems incapable of talking about anything other than the (old) Sky 4 (plus City). Mind you if you're not going to feature Spurs tonight then when the hell do you! .... But then they just couldn't help themselves (Goldstein and Cundy) and spent at least as much time talking about Rooney. Rooney? I'm assuming based purely on him starting on the bench against Real that apparently merits more time than Spurs fans wanting to talk about our brilliant win. I also heard a Chelsea fan but none from Newcastle (who lets face it had a good result). Even when a couple of Spurs fans were on they asked them whether they'd have Rooney at Spurs WTF? What's that got to do with tonight???
Anyway I'm expecting a few goals in the second leg because we've had a 4-3,3-1 and now a 3-0. I expect it to continue.
Ill go with that, it was solid, rather then amazing/complete, as Inter made it easy for us. Granted its a great result and ill be happy once the tie is over but theres a reason we dont play that "impressive" week in, week out but capable of that performance agaisnt a team which never closed us down, sat back, and were slow and weak. Typing that reminds me we should have won by 5! Also lets not forget italian football isnt played at the same pace, so Inter arent used to our style, so perfect tie for us. Now the mousers!
Superb first night at the lane for me and me 2 lads, good atmosphere and of course great result !!! Was that really Inter Milan ??? Poor poor side tonight !! Thought Parker was excellent again infact there wasn't a bad performance in a white shirt, Sig done well I thought assist and a goal. I also listened to that talk ****e after the game and as was mentioned above Rooney Rooney Rooney... The main question they were asking spurs fans was "would you take Rooney and a few million for Bale???" Well would you???
The best thing about that result is it will hopefully make their fans a little more sedate when we go ever there. There'll be much less tension surrounding the game now that they only have a very slim chance of progressing. Hopefully it can pass without incident, then we just have to go to Zenit where I'm sure we'll be well received
I guess it's because I'm a Spurs fan that I see things maybe others don't.That player definately clipped Bale.Over goes Bale and referee unzips his yellow card. As I've said before you touch someone when he's running and he goes.Try it yourself referees!!!! Never said that about Cliff Jones. They touched him in full flight and he became a bullet.......
I'm not saying there wasn't any contact BigSmithy but he ensured that there was contact if you see what I mean. He was totally playing for it and a deserved yellow IMO.
Bale did play for it. But those have been given as pens on countless occasions. Not complaining at this ref as he also gave the opposition a yellow for a dive (quite correctly). The problem I have is consistency as you know it won't be long before a team gets a pen for exactly the same thing.
when he went down and was booked, I was fuming. Having seen the replays, he started the motion before contact was made and looked for it. Sometimes you get those decisions, but I think the ref got it spot on. Bale knew he wasn't going to keep the ball in, and subsequently he did his best to win a penalty.- I'm just amazed the ref spotted it to be honest. He also got it spot on with the Cassano booking where Gallas left a leg out and then withdrew it at the last second. - Another tough call, which i don't know how the ref managed to see as it all happened so fast, but fair play to him.
haven't seen most the replies to this thread from last night so sorry if i'm repeating stuff others have said. Thought pretty much everyone had a good game last night Friedel - good save with feet, otherwise not much to do. Looked a bit more shaky on back passes than Lloris. Walker - defended pretty well i thought. Got back well once. Good offensively Gallas - Just fairly solid. Dodgy moment with their dive. Did a good surge forward at one point and then looked knackered, lol Verts - Class. So much time to pick out a decent pass out of defence. Goal, should have had another too. Benny - Needed width out on the left. Has to play if we are playing Siggy "left" IMO. Solid defensively too. Parker - Best game this season? Everywhere, even went forward a number of times. Dembele - Just love this guy. We looked a little worse as soon as he was subbed Lennon - Tireless, good contributions going forward. Works his little socks off defensively. How bad was the injury? Siggy - Probably his best game for us. Hassled well off the ball. Decent cross for goal, did well for his goal. Dangerous throughout Bale - I don't even need to comment Defoe - Absolutely made the difference last night. Glued the front 4/5 together. Looked sharp and even held the ball up a few times. Couple of wrong decisions in final 3rd but it was clear he wanted a goal. THAT break where Defoe brought it out and we had Bale vs Walker vs Lennon coming out was frightening.
Hello from a lurker I thought on the whole Dembele and Parker were excellent in the middle. Everyone else played very well too, although that may have been due to the poor performance of Inter. I do have a concern with Bale though. It seems he's getting a little complacent and is trying to score for himself, when better opportunities lay elsewhere, ie, pass to a team mate for is better placed to score. This applies to Defore too. I felt like they were not playing as a team when goal scoring opportunities were evident. We got away with it yesterday due to the 3 goals, but if they played more intelligently and passed the ball, we could have easily got more. And this is why we do not generally win by bigger margins. On the whole, we cannot complain when Spurs are doing extremely well, but I hope when they play Liverpool on SUnday (who will be tougher to beat), Spurs play with a bit more thought on the team rather than scoring for themselves.
the Inter boss has claimed we gave them lots of problems with our "aerial game". Lol Actually pal, i think the main problem was that our players were fitter, faster, more skilled and better coached, but you make of it what you will. I didn't see a great deal of aerial play other than defensive clearances tbh. You have a week to improve aerially. I hope you spend all that time concentrating on that so we can run riot again
To be fair to him Spurm, I think that Stramaccioni was talking about set-pieces, for the most part. The were just awful at defending them and we could've put away a few more from them alone. Might be an idea to give Caulker a game in the 2nd leg, as he looks very dangerous on them.
