This is exactly my fear. They won't fit in and it could cause some unrest and possibly even in-fighting amongst our own fans when complete opposites are bungled in together. There's three other stands for people who want to sit down and enjoy a more relaxed vibe in. Those that want to go and try creating a loud and somewhat intimidating atmosphere for opposition as well as vocally supporting our lads, should be strictly for the South. Maybe I'm just being selfish about the subject but I'd be bitterly disappointed if fans who want a calmer, relaxed 'sit down' experience opt for the South. That's poor if so. Again, relating back to past interviews, if Levy and the board want to carry over WHL's atmosphere into New WHL then affordable ticketing must be in place. I pay around £800 for my ticket and while I'll willing pay a bit more for my seat in the new ground if need be, I won't want to be significantly paying a hefty amount more. Levy and the board will need to choose - atmosphere or a slightly larger profit - if the latter, New WHL will just be a blue and white Emirates within a matter of years... Soulless.
Amazes me how pundits are just starting to realise the quality of Davies. Most of us have been saying since pretty much the start of the season that Ben is now top dog at LB and yet for so long in the media all we heard was "when Rose is back in the side... blah, blah". Rose has been immense for this club under Pochettino, can't take that away from him but football has ways of changing things instantly (and ruthlessly!), his long term injury coupled with Ben's incredible form has cost him his place in the XI for the foreseeable future.
Have faith DH, have faith! The club has so far shown enormous empathy for both the traditions of the club and the practicalities in the design. All will be sorted!
Yeah I hope so, mate. It'd be such a shame to move into our shiny new home but having it tainted with some bad decisions.
Personally, I think Davies has been the more complete 'package' for longer than that. What we lost in that flat speed, we more than made up for in the extra defensive stability. But to bring it up to date, watching the link ups and interchange between Ben, Verts and Sonny on Saturday was a delight. There's a real empathy
Oh completely agree, I've said for years that he was excellent competition for Rose and we were lucky to have the two. Ben's always been the better defender but I feel this season he's upped his attacking game to a level where Rose's speed is no longer missed. Ben's crossing is brilliant, it's as if he's been training with Tripps for large periods on that, while his movement back and forth has been immense. I've said a number of times now but Ben is a serious contender for our POTS. Other candidates being Harry, Jan and Sonny, I'd say.
With the club having announced the option of safe standing, they should in advance announce that the south stand is only for fans who are willing to stand. After all, how will they implement standing if there are fans who object? Will they be moved? Best sort in now and not wait.
This came up on SSC too. Someone drafted a wording to try to indicate that in the lower South Stand, at least, that some degree of standing is to be expected and should be taken into account when choosing ST options. There was disagreement as to whether this is legal or a good idea. Proof, if it was needed, that you can't please everyone. Personally, I'd like to stand. Sitting at football, gigs and in a pub is not natural. Unfortunately my height means that I always end up blocking someone's view and will end up in the back row. Short people are so selfish...
I hope you've been working out...I'm not exactly skinny either. I have trouble moving myself some days.
This is not about design though, is it. This is about a section designed to be akin to the noise of the old Shelf side, being populated by supporters whose enthusiasm is more akin to those associated with being in the old west stand. At least with the old Shelf, you went in there knowing full well it would be rowdy (so no complaints) .
Maybe, the club should just say that there may be big flags and other 'interactive' forms of support? That should get the message across? If I wanted a completely uninterrupted view from a seated position, that would probably see me off from the South Stand. Alternatively, would it be possible to indicate an area that the club are preparing for safe standing, in the event of a law change? Such areas have been prepared, so the club want to group together people who will stand and generate atmosphere. Most ST holders won't want to move, so, that could be an answer? Personally, I'm not for the big flags. I think the ones that they have at The Emirates and Chelsea are laughable and I'd prefer not to have the 'wave' ones either. They say foreign football to me. We don't need that to replace the atmosphere that an English stadium should have. Get the acoustics right and let the people who want to make a noise congregate together and we'll be fine but anyone who opts to go into The South Stand expecting to have an uninterrupted view is probably going to be disappointed and better off elsewhere.
I think you misunderstood the point I was making - that I’m confident the club is well aware of those concerns and that there will be some special arrangements for the allocation of tickets in that stand.
It will have to be a 'club has the right to reallocate you from the south stand' clause etc, because if the seat selection process has tick boxes like : - Do you like singing / often sing at WHL - Are you ok with supporters around you standing up for periods during the game then anyone can tick the right boxes and get a seat there, even if they are obviously far from the type of supporter that should be there and the club wants there.
The numbers and explanatory text are still annoying and obtrusive, but at least they're starting the clips earlier.
