Another game last night where I found myself tearing my hair out, but let’s not forget it’s a win away from home after a terrible spell of form.
There were times we played really well, but as usual, we shot ourselves in the foot, plenty of times too.
The reality is that by half time we could have been 5-0 up, and shouldn’t have had such a close final score line if we’d taken our chances.
Ange’s set up clearly makes us vulnerable at the back as we all know, but it’s time we really thought about the quality we recruit in attacking positions to counteract that fragility. We need ruthless attackers who are going to take chances and kill games.
Looking at all of our options (even when all fully fit) I have little confidence in so many of them. For a variety of reasons, we’ve not got 1 player at the moment who I’d genuinely bank on for close to 20 goals a season.
However, that’s a pipe dream at the moment, especially as a defender and a DM seem like an impossible ask.
To be fair it probably could’ve been 5-5! I think Hoffenheim were even more wasteful than we were. Most of the game’s stats favoured them but ultimately right now it’s safe to say we’ll take any win we can and be grateful for it. Two of our goals were really well taken and that’s what helped make the difference I’d say, Maddison’s opener and Son’s second were genuine pieces of quality, our games are far from pretty but if we can find more moments like that it’ll be most welcome.
Kramaric gave an interview a week ago and said “it’s been one **** season” to the reporter after Hoffenheim got battered by Bayern, I think we know how he feels and thankfully last night we probably played the exact type of side we needed, Dr Hoffenheim had the remedy for Dr Tottenham that’s for sure. Hopefully his old club, Leicester, will have the same remedy on the weekend!
