Elsewhere Manchester United take on Liverpool. PNP posted this on the PL board. But nice to see somebody get their perspective right!
I too was nervous to see Dortmund come out of the hat but tbh it's ties like this that make the 25,000 mile round-trips of the qualifying and group stages worth all the bother. That's the hidden beauty of the EL inasmuch as annoying as it can be playing pub teams on recently plowed fields, if you stick with it you will reap what you sow. Fiorentina, Dortmund - these are the names WHL deserves to be graced with, and confirms what I've said about the FAC: Obviously I'd rather have my cake and eat it but if you offered me a choice between being kicked and elbowed by Reading in the FAC versus a trip to the Westfalenstadion amongst an 80,000 strong sea of yellow and black, I'd choose the latter every day of the week. Facing them now is a win-win. If we go through, we surely have to be installed as the outright favourites to win the competition. And if we go out, we go out with our heads held high and pride intact that we lost to one of the best teams in the world, and probably the best team left in the tournament. It will have been an incredible experience for our young warriors and another gradient on their incredible learning curve. It would also mean we got out with plenty of games left to concentrate on in the league. So, on reflection... To Dare is To Do.
This is my worst nightmare. I watch every Tottenham match and have since New Year's 2014. You could say I support them along with Dortmund (please don't kill me). Mostly because of Christian Eriksen and the fact that I hate United, City, Arsenal, and Chelski. Anyways, I'll say this: Tottenham have not seen an offense like ours. And I don't believe we've seen a defense like theirs. We've seen Bayern and Neuer. But Tottenham swarm to the ball for possession. But they also build in an...unorthodox fashion. They really don't have a real plan in moving the ball forward and really just try to find space. We'll have to basically counter them with the way we move the ball. They make silly possession mistakes sometimes with their midfielders like Son and Chadli. Dele Alli missing a match is going to help us. I think the key players are going to be Eric Dier and Erik Lamela for Tottenham and for us it will be Gundogan and Auba for us. Toby Alderwiereld is a ****ing wall. He's better than Papa. Pains me to say that. If Auba can out speed him, we'll have a chance on the counter from passes from Illy because Kevin Wimmer is no Jan Vertonghen. I'm actually not concerned with them scoring on us if Dele Alli is playing. I think Hummels will have his hands full with Harry Kane but Harry isn't Auba.
This Dortmund fan has a better understanding of our game and players than every single pundit and journalist this side of Calais.
What a tie! Would've been nice to have an easier draw for once but still, it will be 2 fantastic games and we certainly have a chance the way we're playing.
If we want to go a long way in the CL next season, providing we qualify, then Dortmund is a good barometer. Looking forward to the two matches more than any other, even the NLD.
Villa and Bmouth games both moved to Sunday, as was expected. There's been a host of game changes in April too, most of which seem down to TV demands rather than the thing we used to call common sense. Further details just went up on the OS.
Very interesting link, thanks PNP. Lots of mutual respect. This may be the best match in the EL for ages. Not that the home media will get it at all as they will be creaming themselves over Pool v United.
Last night was for me, our best display under Pochettino. I thought we were magnificent throughout and every single player gave a thoroughly committed and disciplined performance. Fiorentina are undoubtedly a strong and talented outfit, but they never got going because we took the game by the scruff of the neck and never slackened our grip. The scoreline was a deserved one and in no way did it flatter us and as an added bonus, at long last a great atmosphere inside the stadium. Terrific stuff, cannot wait for Sunday now.
What a great draw that is! Like others have said, this is the sort of team we should want to be playing in Europe!! I can't wait for this one, and I'm quietly confident that we can progress. They've got some dangerous players, but we've got like for like quality. Never been so confident about our team as I am right now. COYS
What a great response from our opponents in the links above! Seems like there's a lot of mutual respect between the two clubs and like the rest of you I can't wait for the matches. Whatever the result you just know that the lads will do us proud. COYS!!
Fantastic draw. I cannot wait to play them. If our young team gets through this then it will be a massive boost to our players mentality and add to their hunger for more big games.
