please log in to view this image Saturday 9th September 3pm Premier League Goodison Park The break is over and proper football resumes with our 2nd trip of the season to the North of England. Having been unable to win at our temporary home, will we continue our success away from it? Our opener against the Geordies was something of a struggle until they were reduced to 10 men. The blue side of Merseyside is certainly a tougher task. Can we rise to it? Our hosts have had a very similar start to their season as us. A win, a draw and a defeat, with both of our losses coming against Chelsea. They've won a few European games though, while we're yet to start our own campaign on that front. MFK Ruzomberok and Hajduk Split were both eliminated as they progressed to the Europa League group stage. Their draw was also against City rather than Burnley, so they'll be happier with that result. This fixture was the opener for us last season and it was something of a slow start. Ross Barkley put Everton ahead early on from a free-kick and they were the better team in the first half. Hugo Lloris had to go off with an injury before the break and we didn't look like getting an equaliser. Vincent Janssen's introduction early on in the second half changed things drastically, though. Erik Lamela quickly grabbed an equaliser and we then had several chances to nick the points. A 1-1 draw was probably a fair result overall. The game at White Hart Lane was quite a different affair. A very one-sided game ended up with a much closer scoreline than the play suggested. Harry Kane's long range shot after 20 minutes gave us a well deserved lead. The dominance continued until his second shortly after the break, following some excellent pressing. Lukaku nicked one back as Vertonghen slipped, before Winks put Alli in to kill it in injury time. There was still time for Valencia to steal a goal and make it tight, but the game ended 3-2. Neither side has any suspensions for this one, but both have injury issues. Lamela, Rose, N'Koudou and Wanyama are missing for us, while Trippier is a doubt. Barkley, Funes Mori, Coleman and Bolasie are all still out for the Toffees. Lineups for each side's last league game: Spurs: Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Dembele; Eriksen, Alli, Son; Kane. Subs: Vorm, Sanchez, Walker-Peters, Winks, Sissoko, Oakley-Boothe, Janssen. Everton: Pickford; Keane, Williams, Jagielka; Holgate, Davies, Gueye, Baines; Rooney, Sigurdsson; Sandro. Subs: Stekelenburg, Kenny, Martina, Besic, Lennon, Lookman, Calvert-Lewin. Referee: Graham Scott. TV: Not televised. Which system should we adopt for this one and who should start at the back if we use a three? If Trippier isn't fit to play, then should Aurier be thrown straight in or should Walker-Peters get another chance? Do any of our internationals need to be left out of the starting XI, given their recent travels?
Haven't watched it yet, but I'm going to assume that the first bloke's a pillock, as always. Edit: Added Koeman's press conference, too:
Got coaxed into taking a ticket for this the other day, despite vowing never to return to Anfield/ Goodison again due to a terrible record up there with just 1 win in a combined 7 visits, the rest were all losses. Hopefully my fortune changes on Saturday, eh?! Team I'd go with: Hugo Big Dave, Toby, Jan Aurier, Dier, Dembele, Davies Eriksen, Alli Kane Vorm, Tripps, One Fourth, Winks, Son, Sissoko, Llorente Aurier's risky seeing as he only got an afternoon session of training in today but Tripps has been injured lately so last thing we'd want is to aggravate any possible problem further. Son still isn't looking the sharpest after a lack of pre-season so I'd go with the three at the back away from home and have either him or Llorente come on to score the winner
Where on earth is Wanyama and why on earth do all our 'minor knocks' seem to keep players out for months?
RCL will absolutely hate that kind of post from D.G.C! Anyway I expect it to be a very tight game. It generally is at your place. We badly need a win as we can't exactly rely on our home form this season! Can see it being 2-1, not sure which way though!
We've not started well tbh, and our failure to land a No.9 in the window is a massive failure. We'll struggle to score goals all season imo, and therefore if you put 2 past us you'll win by default. Last seasons opener at Goodison was a very good game and a hard fought draw, I'd take that tomorrow
Sorry, too late, Vinny's gone already.............I know you'll say you wouldn't touch him with a 6' pole..........but you did buy Vinny Samways. This has the potential to be a big game for both sides. Neither really needs a draw, which is why it'll probably be one.
The " Swansea Connection". ...Sigurdsson vs Llorente , I'm going with Llorente and the Spurs , purely because I don't think Everton had a shot on goal last time out ,,,not a good sign
I was open-mouthed in shock when it happened. You paid good money too. Mind you, we bought Bobby Mimms!
He still lives in Spain I think, I know he had a bar, but I think he's back in the game over there now.
