Todibo was plan C I think. The journos said we weren’t going to sign Tapsoba and van de Ven, it’d be one or the other, so the club went for van de Ven. I think the fans wanted Tapsoba though which may have placed him higher up the list.
My point on Lloris was by time Ange came he HAD to be replaced. It weren't a criticism of Conte. .it goes part way to explaining the extra Ange has had to spend. Same with the defence and Kane. I agree with the rest
The worst thing about the Palace result is that it's emboldened that fraud Paul O'Queef to talk absolute bollocks again
That is what stats do, but what you can't say is that Ange is having unusually poor results. I was responding to King's post of some stats which he and you both used to back your own views. Essentially I am pointing out that at this stage judging Ange on numbers is too early, however if you do then the stats can be used to place him as our 5th best manager. I don't believe that but it shows how such figures do not work. Your opinion on what you see is IMO where we should base our argument. As you said elsewhere fans can be divided in to those who want to watch and enjoy the football and treat any trophies that come along as a bonus. Other fans want to see trophies and care to a lesser extent how we play to get there. This is a fundamental difference of opinion and that's why forums like this exist. We will never run out of discussions.
I don't have a crystal ball but I know from experience that our results will not improve if we constantly change the manager. We need to give someone the time to see their project through and as Ange is all for entertaining football, I hope it's him. Ange is an intelligent guy with lots of experience in football management but he is still in a learning process in this league. He has already adapted someway to the PL and the squad rebuild is not complete. He has made all this clear quite openly. His public statements are not, IMO, to be taken literally, he needs to be on message for his players and this is a part of his skills that he is very good at. In other words what he says and what he does may not always coincide.
I really hope you’re right. I don’t see things quite the same but I do think if Levy thought he was the man last summer when he appointed him then he should give him the resources and time (end of this season before a serious review) before sacking him. I fear our chairman will panic if Spurs slide further down the league though and Levy may feel like he’s heavily backed the manager financially already so he may think the club should be further along than they are.
He has been having unusually poor results though. The first ten games of last season have massively papered over how inconsistent/ poor we’ve been. Since that Chelsea debacle we’ve lost 16 in 37 league games, including 4 in 9 this season. That’s midtable form and it’s where we are in the league at the moment and will remain so if we don’t improve. In terms of what I see, I see a team that at times can occasionally be great, often against clubs struggling more than us but then at other times I get bored senseless watching us pass the ball 100 times in the middle of the park, it’s like watching a team full of Harry Winks’. There doesn’t seem to be enough variation in our play and it feels like any team with a competent defence can easily nullify us. Therefore it’s tough to enjoy the football on a regular basis and any talk of trophies feels more wishful thinking than of having any genuine belief.
The data (30+ yrs worth) show that meh to bad Spurs managers getting the boot by end of season 2 max serves the club well. The real problem are squads that are majority composed due to being able to play ONE managers' preferred playing system (as opposed to being sufficiently technically competent all-round to be able to play in MANY systems) . You cannot purge/rebuild squads as easily/quickly as you can managers.
Some people really don't understand even basic statistical concepts such as robustness (so lennypops' great "z-scores" post on this will just induce zombie-esque stares into the void )..
