Like last season, you feel these teams believe that if they can get to the final 20 mins against Spurs without being blown away, then they'll come away with something.
Iove it wen teams time waste and it comes back to bite them. pardew messed up wasting time with the 2 subs at the corner. Guy wasn't even injured
Just got in from the game. As you can all see, Poch took my advice and went 4-4-2, took a while but it worked out well in the end . Thought the defence was superb, all four of them worked well as a unit like they did for most of last season and all had moments of individual defensive brilliance. Vorm dealt with everything superbly although a couple of goal kicks were stupidly risky. Dier and Wanyama looked 10x better together this week than they did against Everton, as to be expected though for a new partnership. Wanyama seems to be the one that was trying to get forward a little more and it paid off in the end with a great headed winner on his home debut. Kane and Janssen showed signs of a potentially deadly partnership, the work rate and movement is there, just the finishing needs a little sharpening. I was gutted (and pissed off lol) for Janssen when he missed that one-on-one but his overall game was excellent and seems as though he's a nightmare to mark with his hustling and bustling. Eriksen again was poor, needs to pick himself up as he's the only one that's failed to impress in our first two games. Wouldn't be surprised if he's dropped for Alli - who was good when he came on - in the following match. Lamela had a quiet-ish game though his corners were great and his work rate can never be faulted. MOTM is a tough call, a number deserve it but I think I'll give it to Wanyama, one of the most unlikeliest winners of a game and being on his home debut makes it special, shout-outs to Walker, Rose, Jan and Toby though, that back line was excellent. On the whole, buzzing with the win and clean sheet. Moment of the match asides from the goal has to be this (Rose's reaction! , Lamela's even retweeted it himself): COYS!!!
Good performance. Finishing let us down and we were a little bit patchy in how often we threatened but when we were at it we played some lovely stuff. Kane was really good playing a bit deeper and I thought Eriksen was good too, despite the awful pass that should have set up Kane. Wanyama and Dier were better but I'd still prefer to see someone better on the ball in midfield. Janssen up top made things much easier for us as we always had him bullying the defenders, whilst runners came from deep, shame he missed a sitter but it's a promising start he's made. Motm for me was Alderweireld. Superb throughout, never put a foot wrong and went on some mazy runs too Huge relief when we scored, it was the least we deserved but it was starting to feel like one of those days. Nearly missed the goal though, I was watching Delaney(?) throw a wobbly and get escorted away from our fans Proper weird seeing the added ventilation we've got in the stadium now. Makes WHL look a bit sad really Anyone else spot a few builders watching the game? Bet Levy charged them for tickets!
Added ventilation ? That was one hell of a draught blowing through there !! It's going to be a cold winter sitting in that area of the stadium.
Don't worry, Levy will have the club shop selling hats and scarfs in those areas soon enough. How is it getting in that side of the ground?
When it's properly windy, is this going to be a major issue ? ie one that affects the game itself ? is this something that has been considered ?
Townsend just walking away a beaten man makes it that much better - and also underlines why we sold him.
Crystal Palace's league form since Boxing Day last year: DDLLLLLDLLDLLDWDDLLWLLL 13 points from a possible 69. Pardew needs to start winning games soon or he'll be out.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37145702 IMHO this shows Pochettino has taken some of the lessons of last season on-board, as well as setting the route map for this season.
Think you owe Southampton £10m every time Victor scores a goal. Good luck for the season. If you end the season as London's top dog you will be very close to winning the PL. Teams I would love you to stuff out of sight are Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham.
Did he score many for Soton last season ?? "Good luck for the season. If you end the season as London's top dog you will be very close to winning the PL." The target should be to automatically qualify for the CL next season, after at least getting to the KO stage this season. I suspect that as for last season, that will require us to be challenging for the PL again. "Teams I would love you to stuff out of sight are Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham." Chelsky at the Fridge is a score to be settled. I feel that Wanyama will take one for the team and get Costa sent off with him.
