Every game we make the same mistakes and look pathetic in defence, against most of the PL u might get away with it but against the top sides it's no surprise that we score very little and concede loads. I would love to know what our goals scored, against and goal difference is against City and Chelsea in the last 3-4 seasons, we always seem to get smashed by them two and recently Liverpool too.
On what planet is Harry Kane class? Yes he came from the academy, yes he tries hard. Does that instantly make someone class these days? Fact is atm we are an average side with average players and an average manager, this is why Kane suits us atm.
Seems to me he's doing an Adebayor and a Defoe ie going missing for periods and please don't talk to me about his "Hold up play" or his 'Assists", he's there to bang them in and that Asteras miss was a genuine piece of incompetence. He had no idea that he was offside and he missed a sitter, class acts don't do that or only score one in five. Now I know he's a favourite and I'm going to get vilified but I'd rather we buy a striker or two with PROVEN consistent records.
To be fair ,he's best of a bad bunch . We better make the most of it , as the first team will be gradually littered with academy players. Since we will plod around in the top half of the table we might as well have the moral high ground .
Being beaten 3-0 is not a good sign for a team with top four ambitions is it Sid so I agree with what you posted there. We seem to obtain inconsistent strikers which is unusual for Spurs when you think of Clive Allen, Steve Archibald etc. I'd like to see a striker score two in a match not just one now and then.
Please don't make me cry, those golden sepia days were joyful , seasons in the sun , flowers in our hair, we needed love and we got it . Who have we pissed on to deserve this ? The inferno of despair seems our new home not the rose garden of dreams. Wake me up before you go go.
The great wheel of fate seems to have gone in the other direction for us as it did for Everton against Liverpool, City against Utd for a long time, us against Arsenal. It seems that fate conspired to shine on one neighbour and s**t on the other. I have said that we need to get a top name in as coach and we are running out of options. A top name will bring the top results back again as Harry Redknapp did. He's a top name of today who doesn't compare with the top names of the past but a top name nonetheless. Because Spurs were once the top club the wheel of fate can turn again for us IF we get a top name. Klopp would be magnificent for us, so would Blanc.
Our Chelsea friend exaggerates, but I am warming to him. 6 weeks ago I would have echoed your comments, but I am starting to get excited about him. Having had one of my sadly rare pilgrimages to the Lane on Sunday, he was a huge threat throughout and looked powerful and assured on the ball. Lifted the crowd whenever he got the ball. I think he is improving quickly.
Quite surprised at some of the doom and gloom comments. 3-0 was a harsh result on us, we matched Chelsea for large periods and should have had a couple of goals ourselves early on. Kane troubled them throughout the game and Bentaleb was superb again, it was a shame Lennon didn't seem fit as he was causing a few problems too - I think Poch is realising the need for an out and out winger now, when Lennon went off both Chadli and Lamela rotated as inside forwards AND wingers, with Chadli getting a good cross in from the right at one point but no one was on the end of it. Hate saying it but Chelsea are looking like one of the best sides in the world at the moment let alone the Prem, so to know that we only really lost due to our own silly defensive mistakes is somewhat encouraging if not annoying (get Pulis in as a defensive coach! Lol). Don't get me wrong I'm devastated at the defeat to a London Rival but losing to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge isn't the end of the world, they have bought a team full of world class players, I mean they have a £20m LB - who played in the last CL Final and won La Liga - on the bench let alone the amount they've spent on the midfielders that started - Hazard £32m, Willian £30m, Matic £20m, Oscar £20m, Fabregas £30m. A disappointing result but I won't linger on that one, Palace is up next and I'm confident that if we play like we did vs Everton and cut out the defensive mistakes from the Chelsea game, Palace won't enjoy their visit to WHL.
Agreed. You could probably find comments from me at the beginning of the season and over the summer about how i thought he wouldn't make it. But now, he may just do it, and he has nobody in his way right now.
Speaking on the topic of Harry Kane, I'll probably be laughed at for this comment but I'm going to say it nonetheless. There are aspects of Harry's game that remind me so much of Bale's earlier form when he was beginning to finally make a name for himself before becoming the world star he is today, now don't for one minute think I'm saying Kane will ever reach that level because chances are he won't but I just feel he's made similar progression to what Bale did for us. Let's think about it: Start of career - a tall but scrawny player, done ok in games and showed promise but never set the world alight. A year or so goes by and some start thinking he'd be sold soon as he probably won't make it here due to limited chances. Another year or so goes by, fills out after clearly doing work in the gym and looks a good athlete of a player. Starts getting more game time. Importance in the team begins to grow and he starts running at defences causing panic which can lead to mistakes and then possibly goals/ assists/ dangerous set pieces. Can hit a good free kick every now and then. So who am I talking about? Bale in his earlier years or Kane? I'll get my shield ready for the laughing comments and those saying I've lost my head but I genuinely do believe that over the past 8-9 months, Kane has made "triffic" strides and he's still just 21 years old - roughly the age Bale began to start shining - and he won't even be 22 by the end of the season!
Townsend's had some problems, but he can still make a big impact for us, but only if he's used correctly. He needs to play more on the left in our current set-up, in my opinion. It's quite nice to actually have a comparison like this to make though, as for quite some time we'd basically produced no youth players. That the likes of Caulker, Livermore, Bentaleb, Kane, Mason, Carroll and Townsend all appear to be at least Premier League standard is a big step up. It's encouraging to see and it's something that we need to maintain.
S.O.S. I am definitely not laughing at your comments and see where you are coming from. He can do some amazing things and really excites me. On Sunday when he took on two players, went to ground, held on to the ball and continued his run only to get fouled again- if that was one of the top players everyone would be drooling. I cannot believe some of the comments on here. Look at Chelsea's record this season-only last week they beat Schalke 5-0. They put 6 past Everton. 4 past Swansea. What did you want? TMT-You want us to go out and buy a striker. Hmmm Soldado? You want Klopp- have you seen the Bundesliga and where his team sit? COME ON YOU SPURS
It's a nice situation seeing our young lads do well, even if they're no longer with the club. There's also Pritchard who I think has the ability to make it in the Prem, plus Josh Onomah who's arguably the biggest prospect we have in the youth setup and then there's also others like Winks, Akindayini, Oduwa, Azzaoui, McGee and Carter-Vickers who may well end up good players too if managed right. Cheers Blue, he's really impressed me, like you say when he gets the ball I get that excitement/ anticipation as to what he may do, I haven't really felt like that since Bale and Modric, hence the reason for my comparison with Gareth. He also seems really level headed which is good too, a lot of young players allow the hype to get to them but Harry just seems interested in keeping his feet to the ground and improving his game. Really do think we have a special talent on our hands.
The last two games Everton & Chelsea have been a turnaround for me. I didn't expect anything against Chelsea, they are very much the team of the moment but in fact we could have easily been two up before they scored, that surprised me. If this is the team and the direction Pochettino is going in then it's looking up IMO. We now have the basis of the team we need and the style is beginning to be understood by the players, it appears. did you notice how Chadli & Paulinho slipped in to the team in an almost seamless fashion. Looking forward to the next game in a way I have not been for some time.
Well said. Seems a lot of our fans don't care that he doesn't score in the PL because "he's one of our own"
