Well a wins a win, I hope Ange learns a bit from that 15 last mins, and we start Micky on the left for the last 2 games and Sonny out wide.
As we virtually all did before the last game. But no, he plays an average right sided MF in the LB role... Dragusin and Romero are a decent combination and VdV has the ability to play that roaming LB role. 'Frustrating' is putting it mildly!
Even when I don’t agree with decisions at times I can at least understand them. Playing Emerson and Skipp out of position on weaker foots is one of those decisions where I both disagree and don’t understand the logic in them when you have a left footed CB, who’s played LB, to utilise there and then another CB to come in and play in their natural role. He seemingly made things harder for us by picking those two there.
Then just compound everything by continuing to play Sonny at CF where he is totally lost and ineffectual. As soon as he moves out onto the left with VdV the game changed almost instantly.
In fairness to Son I think too much has been made of him seemingly being ineffective at CF, I just think the system and our play for the last few months has made it an impossible task for whoever plays CF. Richarlison played there against Chelsea the other week and had the fewest touches of any player on the pitch by HT, regardless of what I think of the Brazilian, he can’t do anything if he doesn’t get the ball. Earlier in the season when Son was playing CF I thought he done largely well and grabbed a good amount of goals too. But ultimately if you stop creating for your forward(s) then they’re not gonna be able to impact the game. No doubt though that Sonny at LW is far, far better than CF, hardly surprising either considering he’s trained as a LW for probably 20 years… he’s one of the best LWs in Europe for a reason.
Can't think why clips of Assignong's dive are being taken down ASAP Unless the Bottlers' admin assumed it was Saka, anyway...
Yep. Him again. I think VdV gave him an absolute mouthful after their goal. The midfield only works if one of them tries to cut off the counter attack at source (which Sarr in fairness did and was unlucky not to regain possession), while the other quickly identifies where the extra runners are going and do everything they can to prevent an overload on either flank. Bissouma, as usual, is ball watching for that crucial 5-7 second period when good awareness gets you ahead of the game and bad awareness takes you out of it, Burnley overload the right flank, Porro is left on his own marking two players and that's the end of that.
Extended highlights: Behind the scenes/weird angles video: Quite funny watching the players trying to celebrate with van de Ven, but not being able to catch him! I think that Skipp was more at fault for their goal than Bissouma. Vicario should've done better, too. Muric made a number of very good saves, but I doubt any of the big sides will be after him. Really struggled with his passing when he was pressured. Wasn't made to pay for it.
