When the commentator said "As we know, these are two teams with very different styles of football", I had to double check Burnley weren't playing someone else.
Lucas was the only positive influence for me - despite the blind alleys and the bad choices, which says a lot! And I had just been thinking 'I actually miss Aurier' when Emerson realised he can actually cross the Rubicon into the opponent's half and be able to return!
Emerson was getting into good positions until he had to cross the ball, surlywe have not brought a wing back that struggles to put a cross in
Not sure if it's already been said but the 3000 Spurs fan who made the trip lastnight made themselves heard over the home crowd, well done people
I tend to be more optimistic than you guys, but there is an argument that our performance in the game last night was worse than against Wet Spam. Against the Spammers at least in the first half we created a few chances and there were actually a few other good opportunities. By good opportunities I mean attacks that don't stat as a chance, but would have been had the final ball not been missed, intercepted etc. There was also a very good penalty shout. It only needed one of those to go in our favour and it's a completely different game. Last night however it could be argued that there was an even greater lack of penetration. Scorelines tend to dictate opinions however, and because we won some things are glossed over, but because we lost against Spam a few things that nearly went well are ignored.
Arsenal. A chance to put right a dismal performance and a winnable game. We might sneak by Sunderland on penalties as well.
My comment was about Lo Celso, lol. It’ll be great if he could just have a genuinely good game for once and provide at least a small bit of comfort as to why we shelled out £42m. As for Lucas, I’ll never knock his effort and professionalism but he generally impacts a game very few times. He’s kind of like a Brazilian Townsend, exciting when running at the opposition but when you realise he often gets tackled or just gives the ball away afterwards it’s like “ok, so what is the point?”. I’ve said before I think he’s a good player to have in the squad but the fact he’s basically our first choice RW shows why we’re not challenging the big boys. I quite like Emerson so far, not been perfect but I think there’s promise. Another who likely can’t speak any fluent English yet so adapting won’t be easy, especially as he didn’t have a pre-season with us, plus the fact he has Nuno for a manager but I think there’s signs of a good RB with him. Doesn’t tend to have many brainfarts like Aurier and doesn’t seem like he won a raffle to play for a professional team like Doherty did.
Totally agree with this. The performance was totally dead. Too many players uninterested while many others just aren't good enough. We can add Bergwijn to the burgeoning list of players we've wasted millions on in the past 5 years. Awful player. Horrendous recruitment.
Lo Celso's attempt on the hour was our first shot on target in over 110 minutes (the previous being in the first half of our match against West Ham). Moura's goal was our first in over 5 hours of football (the last being in the first half of our match against Newcastle). We average 9 attempts per game (as we did under JM). We've scored 12 goals in 11 games against Premier league teams (9 league and 2 Cup games). The idea that anything has changed for the better is a joke. We were promised decent football going back to the club's "DNA" yet we are still unwatchably turgid. Yesterday papered over cracks...I'm glad we won but when the match thread on here is more entertaining and enjoyable than the game...(yet again!!!!) then things have to change. OGS must be so happy they are playing us on Saturday.
