That really should've been three. Great run by Eriksen, but neither player in the box got on the end of his cross. A bit overhit, in truth. Kane replaced by Soldado. Need a big effort from the Spaniard.
Lloris seemed to be tempting Wallace into hitting that side of the goal from the free-kick. Decent save, though it wasn't the best hit. Not bad, though.
I remember watching him play for Southend United years and years ago, not long before they let him go for nothing.
Eriksen replaced by... Rose? Strengthen up the left for the last few seconds, I guess. Lots of nice disguised passes, feints and runs by the Dane today.
2-1 FT. Good first half, if a little fragile at the back, followed by a dull, nervous second 45. Good to get another win and move up the table, going above the Goons, however temporary that may be, but not the most convincing performance, again.
Manager was indecisive I think. Could have made some earlier substitutions around 60 mins when the pattern of the half was being established. Also thought Dembele should have replaced Mason and putting Stambouli on was too negative.
Not quite so good in the second half and it was a bit nervey but it was a good win, well deserved points. No real favours from the teams above us but that's what made the win essential. Hopefully Liverpool will do us a favour tomorrow and keep us above Arsenal, if not we'll be 5/6 points above them which is good enough for me.
Very decent performance and a valuable three points secured. Leicester on Boxing Day up next, which is very winnable.
You all understand I was just trying to invoke the announcer’s curse, very successfully I might add, and have never doubted his ability to play on the right. Now I have to wonder why we keep giving Soldado minutes. There’s no way he’ll come good at this point.
We did what we needed to do: beat a weaker team at home, and looked like the better teams doing so. Eriksen hardly made a bad decision all game. The front four is looking impressive: 14 goals/1 assist for Kane in all comps: 7/2 for Chadli: 6/4 for Eriksen: 4/7 for Lamela. Very stylish in the first half. Negatives: got back into the old bad habit of dribbling into clumps of players instead of passing into open space to some extent in the second, especially Lamela. Fazio keeps looking like a liability for this style of play, though I guess he’s good in the air. I keep hoping Dier will get a game. I think he may turn out to be the best of our CBs beside Vertonghen. A game we dominated still saw them get five shots on goal.
Game of two halves (judging by the comments) ?? Nice of Eriksen to do a rugby "leave" to let play continue for the first goal.
