Maupay has more career goals than Maddison with 110 to 82. He is a striker though and only 46 of his goals were in top-flight football. Maddison has the exact same number in the Premier League alone.
There was a ridiculous one near the end where Norgaard took out Johnson. The ref went for his card, realised who it was and then played on. Absolutely desperate to avoid sending him off, for some reason.
That was so obvious! And it's not as if it was the first opportunity to 2nd card him..it was arguably the 4th or 5th and that's not including several instances of dissent.
Which also gives me an excuse to post the Spursona 5 clip once again, given that was the match in question
Never! I never even used to cut Kane or Son slack when they were carrying a bunch lead-footed idiots for years. Ange doing a stellar job so far though, minus the League Cup debacle.
Yeah I do feel we have our club back and I’m excited to see where we finish up this season. Massive game on Saturday. Hope the players recover in time as it’s going to be a proper boo fest as usual
One sentiment which I've seen bubbling up quite a bit since this match is that Spurs fans are starting to notice the marked difference between the perception of Brentford and the reality The perception is they're a team along the lines of Southampton, Swansea or Brighton who look to play neat, open football which is supported by a clear vision and canniness in the market The reality that is starting to become apparent is their tactics are far closer to the Brexit Ball of Stoke, Bolton or Burnley based on the four matches we've played against them, and while their vision and canniness in the market can't be denied their attempts at dictating Brighton-like fees (which have so far failed) certainly leave a sour taste in the mouth
I can’t pretend to have watched a lot of them. But my understanding is that they usually play 4atb and more expansive aside from when they play teams they expect to not have much possession against when they play 3atb. They’re having to do that a lot more than Frank would like right now because of unavailable players and that’s probably hurting their overall position in the league. Can’t fault them for having an edge to be fair. Promoted teams need that if they want to get established. Brentford often recruit very well and they have a canny coach but the quality gap to the established PL sides is obviously still there. You need the ****housery and mind games to close the gap. Same is true at any level. Annoying as hell to play against but that’s the point!
I’ve watched the highlights a couple times and I’m more and more convinced there’s no contact between Richarlison and Collins for the disallowed goal. There definitely wasn’t enough contact to send Collins spiralling like a sack of spuds as it was but I’m now about 80% confident there isn’t actual contact from the angles I’ve seen. A shame too, was a lovely finish by Pigeon Boy.
I suspect their games against the "usual suspects" will mean they play quite different to how they usually would. Squad availability as you said making that more so. As I said, those 7 mins in the 2nd half fully vindicated why they played as they did for the entire 1st half.
If the ref had actually booked Collins for simulation a few minutes before that he may well have thought twice before throwing himself to the ground again.
What are these euphemisms, like edge and ****housery? Do you mean cheating? There is a difference between tough hard play and faking fouls and time wasting. Despite their stuff we won the game but no thanks to awful referee who also seems to think that 'smaller' teams need to cheat a bit and get away with it to be able to compete with the rich toffs of teams like Spurs. That's why we are Spursy because we fall between these teams and the 'bought' teams like City and Chelsea. It's the hardest place to be in the league. BTW Villa are not a 'small' team and they indulge in these tactics as well. I know exactly where they come from as well. These are the tactics Spurs were up against in the 60's & 70's but not in England, it was when they played in Europe. We've imported the managers, the players, and the **** tactics along with it.
Found a full game and just watched it again. Dive IMHO (the Sky Sports commentary seemed to think there was nowt in it too) .
