Football isn't deterministic. Exactly the same level of performance can get vastly different points outcomes. There are numerous incidents every game which are completely outside the control of our team and our coach and numerous others where a fraction of an inch in positioning can make the difference between scoring or conceding a goal.
I agree, but your can't use the data while ignoring chronology. It would be like analysing deaths from Covid to make decisions about lockdown by just averaging out all deaths across the entire timeline and then extrapolating a decision from that. The vastly more sensible approach is to study the data over time: are deaths increasing or decreasing? If they fluctuate over time, what could be the reasons for this? Apply this to our data under Ange and the outcome is damning. Last year's form suggested that injuries and fixture congestion were the determining factors behind a downward fluctuation in results. This year has totally disproved that. Our form early in the season when we were at near full strength and didn't have fixture congestion was middling at best. And our form since players returned from injury and fixtures have again dropped to a relative minimum (i.e. since we lost to Liverpool and Villa in the cups) has been much worse.
This is quite easy to analyse for a squad : 1. Rank from 1 to 10 the importance of each player in their team position (the values are irrelevant - only that a value is given) . 2. For the squad, compute the rank sum for the strongest starting XI SS(S) , and the strongest possible bench SB(S) . 3. For each PL game G played , for each team sheet compute SS(G) and SB(G) . From 2/3, basic data analytics will do the rest (with the game results) ...
Agree with this to some extent about squad selections but I still think Spurs would be stuck bottom half even if Ange had prioritised the league. I think a lot of Spurs fans are underestimating how bad this league campaign has been and too quick to just say it’s because of injuries or resting players. He’s only really been resting players for Europa in the last couple of months, that doesn’t account for the poor form since late 2023.
Son to play the 10 on Wednesday? Or Tel? with Son the better winger out of the 2 so staying in his preferred position?
I’d prefer Son at LW but I think the starting XI will be Vicario, Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie, Bentancur, Bissouma, Johnson, Son, Richarlison and Solanke so I’d imagine he’ll be in 10. Unless Postecoglou goes 442? Doubtful though, not really the best time to tinker with formation in a huge cup final.
He might have been working on it in training calling bluffs again maybe either way see you behind the couch
Son to be in the starting XI ?? With ET +/-penalties a possibility I would rather have him on the pitch for the final N out of 120 than the first N out of 90.
