It’s got to be something else I’m not buying the ‘purple patch’ theory can list over 20 players who have been touted in a major way and consistency isn’t their bag. Also, other clubs might not like dealing with Levy but they still do as is apparent from our outgoings. As for Son’s dad…I doubt very much that he is awkward to deal with. If he was awkward he would have probably tried to get a big move for his lad away from the mediocre mindset at THFC. I think World Football has an issue with its major stars and icons originating from Asia n such like therefore they don’t get the hype. one must call a spade a spade
So ^ purple patch ^ consistency. A PL club that buys Son faces the Levy tax at the minimum. The question a buyer must first ask is whether Son : 1. will automatically raise his consistency far higher merely by playing in their team 2. if not, is his baseline consistency much better than current squad members that he will be competing for places with Contrast with Kane, for whom #1 is already very high, and for #2 he is nearly peerless.
I do think consistency has been Son’s problem. He can be absolutely unplayable and then completely anonymous. If he was to even upgrade that anonymous to “ok” then I think he’d be considered a world class player. He’s also in a position where a lot of bigger clubs have great players there too so that could also be why he’s not been chased by them. Then there’s also the finances. I don’t know how much but I’d imagine Son brings a ton of revenue into the club via the Asian market and so if we’re to sell it’d need to be a ridiculous fee, probably not far off what we’d ask for Kane. So there aren’t many who’d could realistically afford him.
Your second point means that buying him would pay back quickly for the purchasing club though so that shouldn't affect their intention to bid.
A team would have to have the amount to spend on him initially though, there are only about 3 clubs who could afford Son (or Kane).
I think one other consideration with Son was Korea's military service. It always had the potential to be a massive obstacle and he committed to Spurs as soon as it wasn't. Losing a star player for a couple of years would be an enormous problem for most clubs.
In fairness look at Grealish and Mahrez... both very good but also streaky players. Several United Players could be added in too. I have no idea why Son ain't been sort after but am very glad. Love watching him play.
Weirdly, all the clubs that want to whip out their wallets or reputations are well-stocked in the exact position he plays PSG - Neymar The Sheikh Mansour Team - pick one of Sterling, Grealish or Foden Penchester - pick one of Ronaldo, Sancho or Martial Saltypool - Mane Chelsea - Hudson-Odoi Los Ladrones - this fat bloke who looks a bit like Eden Hazard Barca - Dembele Bayern - Gnabry
Both primarily right-wingers, but your overall point is correct. Barca have Depay, who was presumably meant to play there if Aguero was ever fit. They also have Fati, who's supposed to be the next wonderkid. Bayern have Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman, which would be overkill if it wasn't for their fitness issues. Madrid can add Vinicius Junior to the pudgy Belgian. Juventus are probably the biggest team who could do with a left-winger. They have some financial issues, though.
