Moura on the other hand is certainly escaping criticism. Gave us all hope in pre-season after scoring a few goals but been nothing short of **** since the season began. 9 games, no goals and just the 1 assist. Nuno saw the light and dropped Dele today, probably needs to do the same with Lucas, he's always been a hit and miss player anyway but he's been pretty much only miss so far this season. Gil can't keep being benched for this.
Is it to do with Nuno’s tactics or Kane wanting out though? My worry is it is because of the latter. At this level, even being off your game a bit makes a huge difference.
I definitely don't think it's the latter, I think some people want it to be that because they've now gone off Kane because he wanted out and so now only see him as a villain but Kane is too good a player and too selfish like all strikers to just down tools. He wants golden boots and records. We've seen in the ECL and League Cup that if you get him the ball in front of goal he's likely going to put it away. He needs more of that in the league. Colin's been highlighting over the weeks how few shots we're having on goal under Nuno, until that changes the goal count for both Kane and Son will be relatively low, certainly by their standards anyway.
Re Kane... have lost a huge amount of respect for him after the way he behaved so I am in no mood to defend him but the bloke knows he is here until the summer and will absolutely want to score. Playing in a side that create sweet FA I'd going to kill anyone's confidence. I think Moura, Son and Kane have all suffered from how we have set up as a team. From the highlights, match reports and stats I have seen today we looked much more balanced and were able to attack more and create 17 attempts which is almost double our season's average.
Yeah I don’t blame anyone being pissed off with Kane for how things panned out over the summer but I definitely don’t believe his lack of goals/ lack of involvement in the league is down to him being half arsed or anything because he wants out. Today was the first game where I felt we got him involved with the general play, still nowhere near enough but it’s an improvement on other weeks. He should’ve scored and he should’ve had an assist but for Lo Celso fluffing it. Hopefully the team and he can build on that against Newcastle. Get Lo Celso in over Ndombele and Gil for Lucas and that’s the makings for at least a semi decent side until we can add more quality.
Excited to see him grow into the team and league. Still not quite perfect but that’s understandable when you come to a new league, country and don’t know the language. But there were glimpses today of why he won best defender last season in the league that probably has the best collective of top defenders in Europe.
Moura’s output has never been good enough, I lucky not to be credited with the goal today to be fair but it doesn’t mask his failings. He works hard and is a great bloke but we can upgrade with Gil I hope.
Yeah agree, I don’t expect Gil to instantly be better than Lucas right now because he isn’t but I see Gil’s ceiling massively surpassing what Lucas can do. Lucas at 29 ain’t going to get better, whereas if we invest a solid amount of time in Gil and not just 5 minute cameos, I think he’s going places.
I don’t want it to be that and I didn’t like it when towards the end of Eriksen, there was fans trying to make out he wasn’t all that etc. I definitely think he’s not fully focused though and still has one eye on leaving and I think that’s bound to affect anyone.
First time I have been able to actually watch a full game in a while so my observations may have already been stated: Skippy and PEH are starting to build a similar understanding to Dembele and Wanyama - they have each others backs. Tanguy is def not suited to PL he seems a couple of yards out of sync with those in front of him (eg the poor pass to Kane where he gives him a real gobful!) more suited to impact sub role. Lo Celso is a proper 10 and should be played as such, finishing must improve. All in all a much more cohesive performance , the goals will come for Kane and Son if we keep playing this lineup and formation. Oh one more thing did anyone notice how much licence Cash was given to take his long throws, not once did the ref tell him to get on with it, the crowd certainly noticed! COYS Another note do they actually practice free kicks at training or they do scissors paper rock to decide who takes them.
He had a good game, apart from their goal. Silly foul for the booking and didn't recover quickly. Shades of Alderweireld, at times. Be nice if we can find him a Vertonghen.
...and he's not wrong. Sonny's just committed the remainder of his best years to the club. I'm surprised but enormously relieved that he has. He's our best player right now and could have his pick of some top clubs, if he so wanted. I can just about take losing 3-0 to Chelsea, after all, their squad cost a ridiculous amount to assemble, but the way the team folded in the second half was shocking to watch. The performances against Palace and Arsenal, who we should be better than, weren't just appalling, they were needlessly appalling. The selections and tactics were amateur and as bad as anything that I can remember. Along with Hugo and very few others, he has the right to call out just about anyone...and you're correct, he didn't sound happy. None of the players should be. There's some tough games coming up. Let's hope that Nuno puts out balanced teams that play with the same commitment as Sonny. Then, we'll compete and might start moving forward again.
Son is underrated - that 18/19 season is as good as anything you'll see. Seems like he wants to take the MJ approach instead of the Lebron one (Kane).
Strange how the big clubs haven’t chased Son’s signature nothing to do with him being happy at Spurs blah blah…everyone is happy till they start getting tapped up by the ‘big boys’.
I think it’s because he has a somewhat deserved reputation as a player who goes through purple patches. He’s gotten more consistent over the last few seasons but it can still be very pronounced.
I find it strange too, particularly given his apparent lack of controversy off-field and Korean market appeal. Maybe they just didn't fancy dealing with Levy? Maybe they didn't fancy dealing with his dad?
Hmmm loads of players get touted by the big clubs and they all have flaws imo but you don’t see talk of Son ever possibly joining anyone
The weirdest thing is that he produces loads of goals as a LM (strikers who produce a lot of goals are much more common)...and was the best finisher in football according to expected goals last year among the five biggest leagues...and may have been the best finisher over the course of his career...though I have no stats for that. On the other hand, purple patches is a fair assessment. I remember noticing that he led Leverkusen in WMOM (Worst Man of the Match). As fabulous a player as he is, when he's off, he can be way off. But that's not as true as it was. The rest of his game is picking up. Last year was the first year, I think, where he had a bunch of assists.
