He kind of reminds me of a younger, at the moment less polished, version of Paul Pogba. He has many of the same attributes, strength, althleticism, aggression, very self confident, and highly skilled.

Maybe that's the reason for PSG's rumoured interest?...

There was a bit after last night's game when Lampard was talking him up:
    http://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/10053817/lampard-praises-talented-alli
Carragher couldn't help pointing out that Lampard was basically blowing his own trumpet! <laugh>

This is the Vertonghen interview, for anyone that missed it:

    Rescued it well.

    !!!

I thought he was solid for most of the game, although Villa weren't exactly troubling anyone for most of the game but he was all over the place giving the ball away and not closing down in the final 20 minutes. Funny how we can have such differing opinions on the same game.

    A shame you're wrong then, YV <laugh>

In all seriousness it was a toss up for me between a number of lads, especially the two full backs who I thought put a real good shift in but I seem to just remember Dier winning every tackle he went in for, a stat I read when I got home from the game said Dier made more than twice the amount of successful tackles than the next highest player (which was Walker) on the pitch, Dier's 7 to Walker's 3. I am a big fan of Dier in fairness so I may have tinted specs on, lol.

Whenever the opposition have the ball and are moving forward whether it's on the break or through steady possession the first thing I do nowadays is look for Dier. It feels like 9 times out of 10 the guy has something to do with us winning back possession.

I feel like DMs get over-praised often (was never a fan of Freund or Zokora) but in Dier I think we have a top, top example of one. His emergence is helping me get over the loss of Sandro who I think was head and shoulders over the likes of Palacios, Zokora etc. (I believe (and hope) that Sandro's sale had everything to do with his injury record and a new transfer philosophy at the club rather than a measure of his ability).

Dier is arguably one of the best signings in recent years for Spurs. Love him.

Yeah completely agree Lenny, I've always been a fan of the more dogged/ aggressive style of player - that's not to say I don't love watching the Modric's/ Bale's/ Eriksen's though - and so the likes of Parker, Sandro and now Dier have been my favourite players to watch in recent years. Their commitment to the team is unrivalled and you just pray their work ethic rubs off on others. For me a crunching last ditch tackle can be just as exciting as a 30 yard screamer from the edge of the box, though don't get me wrong, I'd rather see us score the 30 yarders much more often <laugh>.

The time of Sandro just reminds me how fine the line is for a DM between doing enough to get
the job done and giving it your all. I would hate to think that the career of any DM is shortened
by doing too much of the latter in support of the cause (no matter how crowd-pleasing it is) .

If Kane will score any time his cousin gets five grand for it, ENIC should tell him his cousin will get 5,000 for every goal. 150,000 for thirty goals is a steal at twice the price.
Funny how great signings are so much less interesting than bad ones. Dier for five million, Alli for 10, and Eriksen for 12 put together haven’t gotten half the ink Lamela got for being a flop. Even when Lamela’s doing about what you might hope he’d be doing for us at this point.

In my view, the best DM's don't have to make too many last minute crunching tackles. The best ones have already read the play, stepped in and pinched the ball before it gets that far.

In other words, the very best just read the game so well, they just always seem to be in the right place at the right time.

    Yet the injuries are bad.
I cannot remember Sandro putting in reams of bone-crunchers, yet injury effectively ruined
his Spurs career. So again, crowd-pleasing as such tackles may be, I'd rather he had made none
and still be in the Spurs squad now doing what he did best.

I'd like to see Lamela watch umpteen hours of Robben on dvd.He has all Robben's skills, probably more, but somethings wrong. Is it confidence?Lack of encouragement?3 times out of 4 he will give the ball away stupidly......and his tackling is nearly always bookable.
I like the kid,but Spurs need to get someone in and sort him out There's no doubt he has talent but loses his way a lot.

Careful, he might pick up Robben's greatest weapon - flinging himself to the ground in the most theatrical, referee-conning manner possible.
