Defoe is now our 5th all time leading scorer.

Strangely I agree... AVB needs to show faith in his signing otherwise it will destroy his confidence. Defoe can always come on and change the game if Bobby still doesn't score but he needs to be patient with Soldaldo to give him time to settle because once he does, he WILL score goals. I have no doubt about that.

Bobby seems to have been shooting at goalkeepers in top form as well. Some of the shots saved so far are ridiculous. Any other time, they'd be hitting the net. He just has to keep persisting.

Please please I hate to put a spanner in the works but Defoe did this last season too, he started well but fell away. It's great he's scoring and well done he and yes I'm impressed tonight and more than happy with the score. You can all shout at me now, go on.

Thor, you do realise thats why hes a great squad player. Plus give him some respect for being 5th all time top scorer.

Played 9, won 8, scored 20, conceded 1. Who are we?!

Lloris has looked a bit dodgy this season, but he's been ill, apparently. Friedel had virtually nothing to do tonight, but he made a good save from Tonev anyway. Good sign. <ok>
Nice to see Chiriches and Fryers get their first games. Happy to see Sandro continuing his rehabilitation and Chadli come back from the bench, netting his first.
Very pleased with the win and another clean sheet, despite Villa's depleted side. Can only beat what's in front of you.

I know Defoe must be in the frame for a start but Soldado scored twice when he started a cup game too. Chelsea won't be giving us chances like he's had in the cup games so I'd rather we stuck with Soldado and have Defoe on the bench incase we need a goal. I know it's harsh but we can't play someone just incase they get upset about not playing.

    Yes it is.

Especially if he also becomes our top scorer in Europe this year (needs 5 I think?).

Top stuff. He's the kind of striker every good team needs.

The Goons had Anelka with Bergy and Wright
    Utd Solsjkaer and Chicharito

It's important to have players that can do what he does, even if they can't do it consistently enough to build a team around, which is where he falls short.

Happy all round I must say. As you say PNP you can only beat what's in front of you and I seriously doubt Bentenke and Gabby would have changed anything.

I'll be happy with 2-0 against Chelsea.

I actually agree. Soldado's been playing well despite the lack of goals, they will surely come, he just needs to stop provoking these world class goalkeeping performances.

Norwich just went 3-2 up. Jol and Hughton having a good night of it, too.

    I see your point.

Someone pointed out on the Cardiff thread that Chelsea are also unlikely to try and negate us as much, which should give him more room, and us more chances to thread him the chances he needs.

We've tended to have the lions share of possesion vs Chelsea in the games I can remember at WHL and I don't exepect that to change. What is different is that Chelsea don't appear to be taking their chances, and I think we will give less away.

    I live in hope! <ok>

(PS I would be so happy for AVB to get one over on Maureen and Chelski too)

Yeah its unlikely but Defoe has to feel like hes part of the team and clearly at the moment hes angry and feels like he should be starting so that sort of mentality brings out the best in some players.

soldado is clearly first choice aslong as he starts to score but if he is dropped im sure he will view it as a challenge. rather then allow it to dent his confidence.

Just think there was a time when every team had two strikers on the pitch. now its 1.
