They really aren't bad. They've beaten some good teams. I really like the Europa because my anxiety level goes down to less uncomfortable levels. I want us to win, but wouldn't get too wrapped up in it at least till the quarterfinals. The chances of winning are too low at this point for me to be too upset at a loss.
The point is that the short term (3-5 years) of consistently qualifying for the CL would be more money, more prestige and then hopefully more silverwear - stuff like the "lesser" cups. Only after a good few years of CL qualification could we realistically look to be challenging for the BPL or CL. I want Spurs to win competitions - all the competitions they are in and the extra cash and prestige of the CL will enable that. If we get a bunch of FA Cups and League Cups as a result of CL qualification that'd be a result.
I wonder how much Pulis is going to bid for Traore in January if we go back in for Berahino? Hope Monaco's Russian owner has a similar hissy fit to Peace if he does bid for him.
But if we were in the Chanpions league would we take the league cup seriously? We'd have more chance of winning the FA cup but worse teams than us now have won it over the last 10 years so I don't necessarily think being in the Champiosm League would make a massive difference. I don't like the almost arrogance that we think we are too good for the League or Europa cup. Our league position over probably the last 50 years would say we should be taking every competition we are in seriously. I just want us to win something!!
I think the point was that the added revenue and prestige of a few years in the CL would allow us to attract better players and thus increase our chances in other comps. The fact is though we aren't too good for the league or Europa cups and we should be trying to win them because we should have a chance to do so
Also, with the CL teams dropping down - none of the big boys will. We gotta back ourselves to beat teams that can't get out CL groups ffs. Yeah we'll lose more than we win vs Arsenal for example but for crying out loud let's start backing ourselves to dump them out like we should have done a couple of weeks back
I do agree with you and Lenny. What I'm saying is if we were in the champions League it is still unlikely we would win it. That leaves us with the league, FA cup and League cup to try and win. My point was being in the Champions League would mean playing a reserve team in the League cup (we do now anyway) so I don't think a greater chance to win this trophy. FA cup I think we possibly would have a better chance but my point was if millwall, Cardiff and Portsmouth can get to the final then we should be able to now anyway with a bit of luck. With the money the Manchester clubs have plus Chelsea ,unless we get a billionaire prepared to pump loads of money into the team I just can't see us winning the league either as they will just spend more to make sure they finish above us. Imagine how excited we would all be if we got to the final of this,( even before winning it meant Champions League)!
I would wet myself with excitement if we got to the final of this. We've never done that in my memory. Which is why I'm all for going for it
Townsend on for Chadli. The Belgian's been in and out of the game and not done enough, again. Big contribution for the goal, though. The Chadli Conundrum.
