My brother in law's Jewish - and also the second-most plastic Goon I've ever met (after my sister, who pretends she wasn't a Motherwell fan when this is brought up...) The funny thing is their defence is the usual "supporting my local club" bollocks, because they live in Archway and, before that, Finsbury Park. Funny they never thought of that when living in New Cross, eh?
"And there you have it." What, the reason why we could not co-share the Library for our season in the wilderness.
"I shouldn't be laughing." You have to. The sheer 'moronics' (that at best can only be passed off as ignorance) of these people regarding the nature of their own fanbase etc is just jaw-dropping. The Spanners top the pile though, when we go to Lego towers and start the taunts when David Gold is their owner.
It says a lot that a few Gooners are trotting out some line about us doing the exact same thing at the Emiroids last season. That's funny, I don't recall any stories of stewards being assaulted or their fans being serenaded with songs about Auschwitz. However, for sheer imbecility, it's damn near impossible to top this little nugget: "at least we didn't chant racist songs and throw bananas."
Chelsea (twice), united and city have all won it and went on to win the premier league in the same season
A large section of jewish people would fast even if they are not very observant. It is the holiest day of the year in the Jewish calendar. If your new family eat pork than they are very not observant. It is true that both Spurs and Arsenal have re-arranged games so as to avoid playing on Yom Kippur. When this fixture was announced , the question arose , but Yom Kippur actually finished at 7:45 on Wednesday evening so coincided with KO. Arsenal have plenty of Jewish fans. Both clubs put an advert in the Jewish Chronicle this year wishing their fans a Happy new year.
"Arsenal have plenty of Jewish fans. Both clubs put an advert in the Jewish Chronicle this year wishing their fans a Happy new year." You have to assume that because of the Frumers in Stamford Hill, that is the tenuous link the usual moron suspects need for their antics with Spurs. But for Gooners to do it, shocking. I can only assume those supporters are former Spanners, who have come into a bit of money, and decided they should be supporting the Goons instead of the yo-yo mob at Lego towers.
They saved that for Adebayor when he was at City and did he knee slide in front of their fans. Wasn't happy with our chant about him in the past though, to be fair.
Surely you can see that if you have the best squad you can win more things but if you have the sixth most valuable one it has to be saved for the events that really matter.
Do you remember where we finished in the league in 1901, 1921, 1962, 1963, 1967 1971, 1972, 1973, 1981, 1982, 1991, 1999, 2007? I have no idea...but I know what trophies we won those years. The only years I know are 1951 and 61 when we won the league. We are not going to win the league...ever imo. We are not likely to win the fa cup...we ain't won it since 1991. We aint going to win the EL...not with CL teams dropping into it. The only teams who have broken into the CL have not had EL football AND a top 4 regular has ****ed up (apart from a very rich city)...this was the case with everton (2005), spurs (2010), liverpool 2014, united 2015. And even if we qualify for the CL then what...we have sod all chance of winning it. Football is about glory, winning cups, celebrating, good football, beating your rivals...MP pissed our only real chance of a trophy up the wall...and showed **** all respect to us as fans when it came to a NLD...I am still ****ed off about it and have heard nothing to change my mind. If we lose through being 2nd best or unlucky or a crap ref then so be it but to lose cos OUR manager chooses to play a dross team is outrageous. we conceded 1 penalty goal in our previous 4 matches...arsenal would have been comfortably beaten last night if MP had chosen to play a proper team...they would have been under real pressure which could have affected their league form and we would still be in a cup competition
The difference is those teams have large squads which lessens the likelihood for players becoming complacent - especially Man Utd, as they fielded weakened teams in the 2006, 2009 and 2010 finals.
I think that sides that qualify for Europe should be exempt from playing in the league cup, I think that this would make for an interesting competition and one that teams might try to win, particularly with the Europa league place up for grabs. However I also think that if we lose the 4th Champions league spot then the League cup should lose its European slot to the 5th team in the league
I agree with most of what you say but the Europa League places should go to those teams finishing in the qualifying positions in the PL, not League Cup winners.
Last year the final was contested by two teams who progressed all the way through the EL. And the season Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao contested the final, both had competed in the group stages of the EL so there is very hope for you guys if MP focuses properly. For me I would love Spurs to play Athletic B in this season's final.
So would I mate but we have qualified for Europe every year bar one since 2006 ... in those years we have never gone past the quarter finals and I can't see that changing this season tbh
I think I have sufficiently calmed down from last night to post in a reasonable manner. To say I was furious with Pochettino's approach to this game would be putting it mildly. As someone who gets grizzly if we lose a pre season friendly, I find it quite insulting that an average manager deems it acceptable to our loyal fans to field a sub standard team against our biggest rivals. When the club announced the admission price would be £25 in all areas, I knew then that this gave our yellow bellied manager a get out clause to field a weakened side. This was Arsenal we were playing, and to dismiss this as an ordinary fixture is just not on. The decision to give a starting place to someone we couldn't wait to get rid off a few weeks ago, was staggering.
Lineup for the 21/9/10 League Cup game against Arsenal Pletikosa; Naughton, Bassong, Caulker, Assou-Ekotto; Bentley, Palacios, Sandro, Livermore; Dos Santos, Pavlyuchenko Subs: Cudicini, Hutton, Huddlestone, Jenas, Kranjcar, Keane Are you going to call the bloke who managed us in 2010-11 "yellow bellied" as well? After all, he sacked off a North London Derby in the League Cup too...
As if I'm going to take notice of a guy who had a dig last night at the Manchester United manager for fielding a strong side against Ipswich, We're out, Manchester are through.
