I certainly like how our midfield look to be in control of the game with their pinging the ball about with short, quick passes that mean that the worst that can happen is we make the percentage play and hold onto the ball, the best we suddenly up the tempo and are getting into the final third. And it has to be said that Winks is looking so much better suited to his role in this system with Skippy setting the rhythm behind him On the other hand it's getting hard to ignore that Dier is playing a lot of hospital balls into midfield as he seems to operate on the basis of the teammate with two Colchester players closing them down is the ideal person to play to, so the ball ends up having to be recycled out of the back - although on the other hand, some of Dier's diagonals have been useful
Swap Carter-Vickers and Paskotsi. I think Paskotsi is a CB by preference, I hear, but can and has played RB well both matches. He had a brilliant pass to set up the last goal. If Gil is the new George Best, Skipp is the new Modric. Not to hype him. I have to say I'm very impressed with Nuno. Granted it's Colchester, but I never remember thinking "Spurs look very sharp for this early in the season" before. They are also playing more aggressively than under any manager I've seen other than early Pochettino...and his teams always started the season slowly.
Scarlett has the ball in the net and it's a wonderful ball from Moura, but it's offside. Shame. Like to see a decent angle on that one.
Wiredu booked. Took a lot for that to happen. It's just a cynical trip, but they've done quite a few and the ref warned them about it in the first half.
Chambers heads against the bar. A few players have switched off since the break. Mass changes incoming, but that's not really good enough. Need to be more professional.
Mass changes for Colchester now. Looks like all of their outfielders. Whiteman's looked a little troubled on set-pieces. Needs a good, well-chosen loan this year, I think.
3-0 FT. Useful first half. Not sure the second taught us anything though, again. Skipp and Paskotsi probably did themselves the most good. John had another decent run-out, too. We really need to get some fullbacks onto the pitch soon. Not many games before the season.
There’s still a really good player in there. If Nuno can get him playing well then everyone’s a winner
Thought Skipp looked very impressive and the first team regulars (mainly Sonny and Lucas) looked very sharp. Couple of very good saves from Whiteman too I must say. And Scarlett is going to be a gem isn’t he, saw the video Spurs put out today with him in it and he just seems so grounded. An old head on young shoulders it seems. Wonderful first time finish for the offside goal. I’d echo what others say that before the mass subs (typical preseason) we looked much more aggressive both in possession and out. This bodes very well for what Nuno wants to do. I also like how he’s setting up in preseason - bringing the forwards narrow in a 433 lets Son make runs into the channels and the likes of Moura (and Gil looks similar) drive forward with the ball and cause chaos, while still having license to pull wide with the support of the FBs (once we actually get proper players in those positions). All in all I’m very encouraged by what I’m seeing.
Tanganga as well I must say, looked good. He’s developed tremendous speed at CB and he has a great attitude. Hopefully a big season for him after his injuries since his breakthrough.
Ndombele has been absent from these games because he's just become a father for the first time. Congratulations to him. I'm glad it's not fitness/injury related or anything to do with his attitude.
