Or you could say " despite the fact they they live for the most part in one of the world's most inhospitable areas, they have contributed enormously to world economic development by allowing their natural resources to be extracted and have planned wisely for the future by investing the profits in other economies". Two sides to every story Ensil. Personally I don't care about the race, religion, hair colour or sexual orientation of the owners or sponsors of Spurs....but if a bunch of crooks get involved then I'll be out of there too and take up following Oxford United.
It is indeed your opinion but I don't ever agree with generalising people (except for gooners). As for contributing nothing, imho all the rich countries in the world come across as selfish and only worried about themselves and I see Arabs countries no better or worse than anyone else.
Ens - I'm sorry, but that is an appalling thing to say. "I distrust Arabs" is racist. If you replace Arabs with Jews, Blacks or Chinese you would probably have had that remark removed by now. Whether you are blaming all Arabs for whatever sad event you are alluding to, the fact is your mistrust applies to an entire race and to me that is not something that should be written in a forum like this.
Similar to Power's view, I don't mind who invests in the club, providing it's not blood or drug money I'm more than happy to see investment into the club. As long as Levy remains in control too, I'll have no complaints
Apart from giving us the following: Coffee, the marching band, the vertical-axel windmill, the pin-hole camera, chess, soap, distillation, the crank-shaft, quilting, many modern surgical instruments, inoculation, the fountain pen, carpets, numbers, cheques, the idea the Earth is round, shampoo... And, with the exception of Iraq invading Kuwait, I don't recall any Arabic nation invading another country to get at their oil reserves...
Racist it may not be but it is definately ignorant. How many Arabs have you actually met? Like all races some are not to be trusted but again like all races I bet 99.9% are decent people.
You forgot thoroughbred horses. All bred Arabian from stallions. They whack out a fair rug too truth be told and Lebanese food? Well if you haven't you really should...
The Sumerians were Arabs, and they gave us all of those things, as well as astronomy, the concept of Time, counting, the zodiac, art, architecture, agriculture, animal husbandry, weaving, fermentation, medicine & surgical procedures, dentistry, ship-building, mechanical engineering, a system of formal education, etc. There are some very accessible resources out there that will disabuse you of your falsely-held notion that the Arabs have contributed nothing to the world. In fact, I think it is probably fair to say that the cradle of everything you hold to be an indicator of civilized culture is centred in and around what is now called Iraq.
Good try at trying to drag it back to football! I see there are some entrenched views here that aren't going to be changed by debate. Should we not call it a day on this thread?
Duly noted. I'm not saying that today's Arabs are a patch on their illustrious ancestors, but neither would I claim that all Arabs are to be distrusted. I've known a couple of Arab people fairly well, in my time, and whilst it is true that their value-system was not the same as mine, I cannot say that I distrusted them. Indeed, in many regards, I would have trusted them more than most of the non-Arab people that I knew at that time. As someone has already said, it is dangerous to generalise in these matters.
Ownership of the airline is very vague from what i've just tried, 50% government owned apparently, even the 50% private doesn't say if its Royal Family personal investment or private business. It also doesn't say whether the governments bit is in with their investment arm QIA either, if it is, they can't do anything Ens, they've bought 70% of PSG so can't have controlling interest in any other club. I have no problem with Arabs, when I worked there, at least they let me out before the War really got going!
I'd rather the sponsor wasn't the Qatar foundation, but even if it were, I'd keep on supporting Spurs. Nothing's set in stone yet, so I'm not going to get too worked up about it. I will say, though, that if you argue about whether it's right or wrong, it's a long, complicated issue. (How right is Coca-Cola, anyway?) If you look at it pragmatically, you might worry that any or all of the petrokingdoms are going to crumble like the houses of cards they are, and that there may be collateral damage to the things they're supporting.
Turkey and Iran. As for doing nothing but make money from oil (and natural gas) beneath their land, would the same statement apply should we be offered a multi-million pound investment deal from an Aberdeen-based consortium? Also, it's wrong to blame the Qataris - or even Arabs - for OPEC fixing oil prices at a level they want, as OPEC includes renowned non-Arabic nations Nigeria, Venezuela, Ecuador and Angola among its members.
When Constantinople fell to the Ottomans on 29th May 1453. The crescent on the Turkish flag should've tipped you off, frankly.
