Judging by this guy winning it, it is probably less credible

Spanish papers are reporting that we've bid €25mill for him. I find it hard to believe that we'd throw such a large amount of money for a player who we don't really need when NEW STRIKER THAT'S OLD ENOUGH TO BUY CIGARETTES is still not signed. On the other hand it seems Levy wants us to focus our transfer policy back on youngsters with potential.

Good point. I expect the British papers will be describing him as "Modric's replacement" in their articles.

If we were to sign him, then presumably Redknapp would be looking to move Bale to left-back.
Might be thinking about the African Nations in January and the possibility of losing Assou-Ekotto for that, but Cameroon still have to qualify.

Why would we want him? And why would City want him when they have Santa Cruz, Aguero, Bellamy, Adebayor, Balotelli, Dzeko and Tevez already?

    Sell Crouch, buy Zigic?
    Er, no.

His agent is just blatantly making all of that up.
Spurs, Man City, Sunderland, the Bundesliga and much bigger clubs than those mentioned?
Yeah, he's off to Barca to act as cover for Messi. <doh>

Zigic and Crouch upfront in Europe would be pretty unbeatable.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...065920,00.html....<laugh> dunno whats funnier, City or us!

As for the Fail link, nothing but reporter opinion, reporter chooses to not publish his name either...fan of a rival me thinks.

I'd like to see him go into a Chinese takeaway and ask for No.1, the conversation could go like this...

    Mata - I'll have No.1 por favor.

Chinese person - You wot rumber hwarn?

Mata - I told you what number, No.1...and how do you know me?

    ...it could go on...and on.

Luke, it is obviously no great secret that Spurs are looking to recruit, at least, one new striker. Therefore, the lame brains who work for the tabloid press will automatically link us with any striker they even suspect may be available.

They also, know that Utd are looking for an attack minded midfielder, and will try to link them with any suspected suitable candidates.

It's all part of the "benefits" so called "free press" that exists in the U.K.

Get the Guardian tomorrow, there's a very interesting article on the false, false no. 9 role. You think they might drop back like Messi but they don't.

I believe that Robert Green was tried out in a false 1 position at the last World Cup.
He was never where the defence expected him to be, either.

  16. Tottenham Hotspur last night sought to beat Arsenal to the signing of the Valencia forward Juan Mata by tabling a bid worth close to €25m (£22m). Arsenal, whose manager, Arsène Wenger, admitted that Mata is a player he likes, remain the favourites to sign the 23-year-old but are yet to make a formal bid.

Initial talks have suggested that Arsenal would offer less than Spurs, at least to begin with. Mata's preference is to join Arsenal but, with Harry Redknapp making little secret of his pursuit of attacking players over the past six months, Spurs are seeking to force Valencia's hand and bring pressure to bear on the player.

Mata's camp, though, is awaiting definitive movement from Arsenal. That may yet depend on the departure of Cesc Fábregas. Sources at Barcelona said they are cautiously optimistic about signing the midfielder – and that it was him or no one.

Mata, whose contract allows him to depart Valencia for €21m before 1 August, is open to a move to the Premier League.

He already speaks a little English. Valencia, too, are keen to sell, with the sporting director, Braulio Vázquez, admitting: "We are ready if [Mata] does depart." The Spanish club's huge debt requires the annual sale of key players and Mata looks set to follow the footsteps of David Villa and David Silva to the exit.

According to an agreement reached when Mata last renewed his contract, Valencia are obliged to sell to a foreign club that matches the €21m bar before Monday. Spurs have made an offer that exceeds that minimum fee in order to strengthen their hand.

To be honest I feel that a lot of the moves Spurs are making in the transfer market are about 12 months too late.

I thought they would invest more in big talent than they did last summer when they had the draw of the Champions league.

Now unfortunately for them, they are not in it this year and so face a loss of income and the ability to attract the top talent needed to stay in the CL

Already a thread for this that I dug up earlier. What's your interest in player's Spurs are rumoured to be interested in? We've signed 2 players all summer, yet you've managed to make 4 threads about Spurs rumours in a day, surely that'll tell you something about the quality of the rumours.
