Didn't we have any No 9s prior to 1972/73? Typical that one of the very best isn't even mentioned -- Ron Davies. He was the best header of the ball I have ever had the privilege of seeing at Carrow Road. He had that ability to get up and seemingly hang in the air, head and shoulders above all around him. He was only 6 ft tall and owed his heading prowess to the hard work he single-mindedly put into strengthening his legs.

Because of that ability it was impossible for defences to mark him and he used to get incredible power into his headers as well. Talking of incredible heading power who remembers Charlie Hurley playing for Sunderland - unstoppable.

The other No.9 who sticks in my memory from the 60s was certainly not among the best to wear the Canary colours. But he had one of the most memorable debuts. Those of us in the south stand couldn't believe what we were seeing when Laurie Sheffield ran onto the field; he had very short, somewhat bandy, legs and it seemed inconceivable that he could be Ron Davies's replacement. By the final whistle he had scored four, and finished the season with 17 in 28 appearances!

Another one of Lol Morgans super buys. That man bought and sold more players than a tobacconist and most of them were useless - his first and last Management job. Didn't we suffer some garbage in the 60's.

We lost interest when we found out he's only 5'7". Apparently not tall enough for the Championship

I liked Laurie Sheffield - 2 foot 6 with his arms above his head but he knew where the net was. John Manning was one of my favourites too - he and Hughie Curran were a lethal partnership. And then there was big Iwan .......

I'm starting to think we won't lose any of our youngsters this window. Unless we get offered silly money. Better to keep them til January and see how the land lies.

The window remains open into October though with a strange stipulation that PL clubs cannot buy from each other but they can from the EFL. So injuries or perceived early deficiencies could see our youngsters go in the middle of October! Though at that stage I would imagine we will really be able to shaft them on price as their desperation will be clear.

    Bah!

Feels like our players have been overlooked for most "sensible" destinations. Full back signings are falling into place through the Prem, for example. And £25m in a Covid market can buy you a hell of a lot more proven players than our youngsters. Feels like we're asking for fees only the top 6/7 teams in the Prem can afford, but our players are more likely to fit in at an 8-15th place Prem side.

I agree fully with what you say but the danger is that one of these lesser Clubs suffers a long term injury before the window shuts and in desperation makes us an offer too good to turn down for one of our squad. Another worry are the 3 players on first team money we no longer want. Clearly we want them to move on but for that to happen requires another Club to not only want them but are also prepared to pay them the wages they are getting here. Money is even tighter on the Continent and their window shuts earlier than ours. What can we do if there are no takers? There is no room in our squad but equally we cannot afford to pay 3 players substantial wages to just sit in the stands.

I think it was important to get our business done early before we sold any of the young guns so that we couldn’t be held to ransom by other teams seeing us sell a player for £15m+. We have a large squad which I see as huge benefit going into next season where we could be playing 3 games a week regularly, we currently have 3 decent options for almost every position.

Chilwell has gone to Chelsea, wonder if Lewis has been lined up as his replacement although they do already have James Justin

Anna Trybull has posted a "goodbye to Norwich" message on Instagram. Nothing we didn't already expect, but perhaps a sign that a deal for Tom has been agreed?
