the only thing i wish to contribute right now on this is It's silly season but the GOOD thing is there's lots of fottball during the festive period so unlike the summer we can simply ignore this totally and watc al the festive footy!

I think he looked miserable & disillusioned at Chelsea from day 1.

I know also that he said some things about Liverpool that he almost certainly regrets.

We have to look at the bigger picture here lads - what's Liverpool FC's current biggest problem?

Scoring goals. We create a shedload of chances every time we play, but nobody is knocking them in.

I'd take a gamble on having him back. Certainly at £20M

I've actually had a different thought. This has nothing to do with said transfer but it is something to contribute so her eis goes.

1. this has nothing to do with us really we are simply the linked club (which is good as it shows the media don't think they can link our player sout any more)

2. what this actually is is the media vultures circling. just like how they tormented us for years under G&H they smell blood round stamford bridge so are in over drive making stuff up.

let me expand on this.

Villas boas stated that a certain rags "sources" were completely fals just this week, one such story according to boas himelf (not form that rag) was that he never asked anyone to come to the bench to celebrate a goal... this is an example, the knives are out.

The press clearly think a frenzy of player sales is coming so they are now linking all and sundry to anyone they can think of... lampard to utd merely takes frank being in and out of chelsea's side and links him to a side with no midfielders... torres is the same... anselka was a done deal, dorgba will be next.

I for one am glad its not my side thats getting this destabilising treatment this time round. Cheslea fans were not that bad when it was us compared to say spurs or arsenal or utd.

I jsut feel the media are out for blood with chelsea now and see easy column inches about stamford bridge.

its an outside chance IMO,

Not because of who he is, but the type of striker he is.

we could have 3 differant strikers, Suarez, Carroll and torres.

22mil, 35mil plus 20mil - 50(lastyear) = 27mil+ for the three... fantastic business?

im going to run now in fear of being shot down.

There is no doubt that taking £50m for Torres and buying him back for £20m is great business.

I don't think it will be any good for the club to take him though - I think it could cause a divide between the players which is exactly what we don't need. Liverpool FC are also going about their business under the scrutiny of the media at the moment (compared to normal anyway). IMAGINE the coverage around this if we re-sign him.

I don't at this moment think we'll bring him back, but I do think a £20m sale is likely. Chelsea have taken a massive loss before with Shevchenko. I suppose they'd rather get 20 back now than 15, 10, 5, nothing over the next few years.

Wouldn't have him back. If he hasn't found his form nearly 12 months after leaving Liverpool, I doubt he will find it if he comes back.

Also, he was only really successful for us because he was a sole striker, when he plays for Spain he is always overshadowed by Villa.

Sell Carroll back to Newcastle for 20m and use it to buy Torres, no lose deal, IF we can get 20m for Carroll:) back to where we started but 15m ish better off due to 30m profit from Torres Vs 15m loss on Carroll

Yet even injured he provided the assist for the winning goal and in the previous tourney he scored the winning goal to take the trophy.

We should have you as manager. The sole reason you want Torres back is because he scored one goal, then assisted another. He did his duty for us, but his last months with us proved that he wasn't dedicated and what has changed since then? Apart from him netting the same amount of goals as Andy Carroll.

After recovering from injury, FT seemed to recover some of his old form.

I seem to recall this time last year he had bagged 5 goals in 6 games before his transfer.

Just sayin'.........

Matey it is all just waffle, noone really thinks tsis is true nor do I think Torres is the same player from that year, a change happened in him, different mentality totally, Ego maybe, who knows but don't be taking anything on this thread too seriously, if I can't dream at christmas time then when can I:) <ok>

I'll ask the misses for a small pressie, bring Torres back to Anfield and make him the player he was.

Why not dream about an in-form young striker instead then? It's all well and good reminiscing about Torres' former form with us but I think we could probably get a better player for the same price.

dude seriously, I am supporting Liverpool a long tme and even wondered how rushie would have taken the chances we missed, 99% of them would have hit the back of the onion sack.

This thread was a bit of a laugh at the report and nowt much else.

If you want to dream of a young footballer, be my guest <ok> I was talking Liverpool torres and lots of goals:)

Are we really falling so low as to think like City or Chelsea? Goals goals goals, it's not all about goals. Yes it might sound stupid especially when we need them but football isn't all about goals. Have Liverpool ever been the club to sign overpaid mercenaries? Would you take Michael Owen back?

We gave Torres the support and style he needed, and he performed in patches. Sure he was great in front of Masch, Alonso and Gerrard. Do any of them play (regularly) for Liverpool anymore? Coming back isn't a guarantee he will perform. As a player, I certainly wouldn't be able to trust a teammate who jumped the sinking ship, without thoughts of repaying the fans for their understanding of his mood swings and injuries. Agger and Carra openly expressed their feelings, Carra stating that Torres was moody and dividing in the dressing room, and Agger with his elbow on the pitch. He also praised the remaining loyal players in a sly dig a few days into February.

I don't hate Torres. I understand why he left, I just never agreed with it. I don't have much respect for him, but i've accepted that he left. He once was a peach of a player but now I want him nowhere near my club. And your club. It's worth more than just goals, which he doesn't score anyway.

Long time lurker (oh err..) first time poster..
Torres, loved the fella (NOTE the past tense) and will always be thankful for the joy he bought to us when playing for LFC.
I held no grudge against him for leaving, who else wouldn’t leave their work place for more money and what they may perceive better living conditions/standard of life (however give me the Southport “golf” coast life style over London any day!) and despite what they say, they are just employees/professionals and not Fans of the club, hence why we, the Fans sometimes feel the effects of a loss/win/draw/players leaving more than them, we have an emotional bond!
In short, he moved and we’ve moved on, we’re playing good football, got some good young players coming through, a defence which is currently best in the league, KD at the helm and decent owners.. I believe all we need in Jan, is that fox in the box and a DM (maybe on loan until Lucas gets back) and getting Steven Gerrard back from Injury (and assuming he stays fit for the rest of the season) will be like a new signing.
The another reason Torres won’t be coming back (even if he’s for sale which I highly doubt) is that buying players nearer 30 is not in the FSG MoneyBall philosophy.

Imagine you're in love with someone and they leave you for someone else, and say some cruel things about you to justify themselves. Then their new life goes pear-shaped and they say they didn't mean it and they've loved you all along and want to come back.
You might be tempted because you're still in love in one sense, but you'd never be able to forget what they've done and said, you can't recapture the feeling of the first time, and you'd never be able to trust them.

LFC has moved on from Torres, we play a different style now to the one that suits him and although we may be tempted by memories of him a few years ago, I doubt we could ever get back to those times.

Welcome to the board mate!

I agree with what you're saying, but Torres claimed he left for more success, more trophies etc. He questioned our ambition, and let's not forget he left as KK and the new owners came in, Entering a whole new era for the club.

Interesting quotes from Pepe Reinas' autobiography:

“As much as it hurt the supporters to see him [Torres] go, I can understand his reasons for leaving.
“When Fernando started to feel that Liverpool were never going to be competitive again, it quickly became inevitable that he would accept the offer from Chelsea.
“I did know he was really angry because he felt he had been betrayed by Liverpool before he left. There had been plenty of lies, plenty of promises which had not been kept.

"He never got the goodbye he deserved and the Liverpool fans never got the goodbye they deserved from him."

Thanks for the welcome..

“Torres claimed he left for more success, more trophies etc” which could also be interpreted as “They’re giving me more money, its in London and I like big bright lights..” Not going to re-hash the “we’re a bigger club, they’re a bigger club” argument.. We all have our opinions and as a Liverpool fan my opinion will of course be a bit biased towards Liverpool, all supporters think their club is bigger (which in our case it is! Sorry, couldn’t resist…)

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, I have no reason to doubt what Pepe says in his Autobiography, if promises were made to Torres by the previous regime and not kept, he (Torres) may have thought “you lot (new owners) aren’t going to make a fool out of me like the last bunch did and I’ll gonna get out while I can..” like I said, hindsight is a wonderful thing, only regret I have (and wishful thinking on behalf of a fan, maybe he has too) is he didn’t given King Kenny the benefit of the doubt, but so is life.

As a team we need to go forward and improve with new blood that want to be here and not go back to past heroes who have fallen on hard times elsewhere, good luck to the fella, I really mean it but I’ll always want the better luck/fortune/times to befall Liverpool FC!
