gills4ever - so when do I claim my prize As I tried to warn a Tuesday night and the long journey to a team unbeaten at home. As I said, I always believe but I do mine with open eyes and game by game dependent on what I see and know. Looking forward to Saturday and going to Wimbledon. Only just got home from work, so will need to look how the wombles done tonight before casting any more psychic predictions.
They done quite well so they will want to continue that form but it would be hard anyway because if they had not won they would really want to end that bad run against us.
Hoadie, despite my little bit of banter with gills4ever, the reason I have been saying what I have today is that a defeat was due and I feel this was a better time then any to get it out of the way and clear any cobwebs of complacency. We have Wimbledon up next who I quite fancy us against but I need to check the form first, then we get a break from the league with the FA Cup, then another league home game after that. With Port Vale faltering as I predicted they would against a decent Burton side.
I was puzzled a little with the team selection tonight. While I share MA's view of changing the team from the Burton win to freshen things up, I don't think it was a good idea to play Davies in the holding role given the opposition and them being unbeaten at home. Dack also; great that he had a full game but not entirely sure that this was the right game for those two in particular. If Montrose had a good game on Saturday then why didn't he play or why wasn't Jackman involved? That would have strengthened midfield and broken up more of the play and may have changed the result. Although having said that, a defeat was due like brb said and it sounded like we didn't have luck on our side which will happen every now and again.
The difference between this defeat and the one against Rochdale is that Gills , last night were a little unlucky. The statistics show that we had more possession and more shots. Although Torquay had the better of the second half ( as you would expect from a team unbeaten at home ) they got their winner via a deflection - when, on balance a draw was probably a fairer result - so - perhaps only one point lost rather than three ! and I'm not surprised that Port Vale didn't beat Burton - so we're still top ! There were enough positives from the performance against Torquay not to worry that this the start of a slump, but we need to bounce back like we did after we lost to Rochdale.
How do I gently tell you that you are wrong, sorry I meant misguided, er I mean alwaysright but wrong I was reading twitter feeds from people coming back from the game late last night and it seems to indicate quite the opposite that we deserved to lose. Obviously I was not there so do not know but that is what I read. Must admit slightly surprised by the team selection.
Radio commentary suggested Gills were well beaten. It is no disaster. We say well done MA when the team is "freshened" and wins so it is a bit unfair (but human nature) to say what the hell did he mess it up for and Torquay is no place to give kids a game! In reality he has to know what his best team is and he has to know when to play it. Wimbledon may be tough on Saturday now but the key ingredient for success this season will be to have plenty of wins and not too many draws....there will always be a few losses.
I do not know the answer to that question but I have seen it said on twitter today, that the only two games he did not take a part in we have lost. Not technically true because he came on in the second half against Rochdale. Although I understand the point being made, particularly as Keds scored in the second half when he came on.
How ? It's more like " When " - and not raising the subject on Saturday would be a good start - it's a long walk home This was the only game that I'm likely to miss this season - listened to the complete commentary- sounded quite good in first half. Will concede that we were under pressure in the 2nd half - but the goals were slightly flukey. My point was that the defeat was not necessarily because we played particularly badly . I would be surprised if we go another 14 games before the next two defeats - but would gladly take a repitition of the performances thus far ( except v Rochdale ) - maybe the experience of this loss will stand us in good stead when, as a few of us have stated, there is no room for complacency.
Always you may have to change that to sometimes. By the sounds of it we were better in the first half but the second half you could see the goals coming from Torquay.
