United and Arsenal will join City and Chelsea in th top four. The rest is a combination of being too far behind or just not good enough.

But then neither are United or Arsenal good enough to hold on to 3/4th place. That game is still on.

Not quite. Unless we think that west Ham and Southampton have got a chance.

It is certainly not going to be us. If it needs like last season to be top 4 it will require around 75-76 points. We currently have 22 points so we will need something like 53 points from 21 games! Which is doing better than last year with Suarez when we got 48 points from these 21. Dreamland stuff.

Even if it requires less, then there are so many clubs in front of us that they'll be favourites . The mancs may well falter but no one has come so far back to get a 4th place. Sorry to be so depressing...

Carl, this season is totally different from the last and whilst its mathematically possible for us to achieve 4th place then we should go for it. After all at this time last season we faced what most pundits described as an impossible run and almost made it!!

I'm prepared to write-off 1st and 2nd but after that the game is well and truly on.

Dave is right where there is life there has to be hope. Arsenal are that bad that we can get 4th if we do the right things in january

Two wins per loss (i.e 2 points a game) might just get us 4th. It looks like fourth place will be a shambles this season. Can't see them higher than mid sixties.

So, we do have a decent shot! It depends on Rodgers figuring out a stable side.

Interesting. Let's assume you are right and that 64 points might get fourth. You are speculating that we could get 14 wins for 7 losses ( or equivalent ). If indeed 64 will get 4th place, the mancs need to get fewer than 11 wins out of their 21 so nearly one win per 2 games would do it.

Top 4 is still anyone's imo. A couple of poor results and it can all change. But I look at the table and think who could overtake us even if we slipped to 4th? Spurs and Arsenal. I think it will be 2 out of them 3. Looking at Liverpool the question is if they have the consistency, the mental strength or self belief to overcome 9 points or whether it will widen?

I senserely doubt it will be spurs. they seem scrappy but also inconsistent

I feel 3rd is all utds. the forward line will simply lead to 3rd easy. 4th... god knows... LFC need a real forward on jan 1 to make it happen

  15. We'll find out in the next week and half. Fail to get nine points and it's definitely over. Get the nine and although still very difficult, it may give us the confidence to push on. Can't see us getting higher than 5th/6th though tbh

Yeh I doubt it about Spurs as well, but if I do that then it becomes far too comfortable and I don't necessarily think that's true either. It really is a weird season or it's only weird bcos of what happened to us last season.

But I still dont think we should rule them out.

If they have a crap second half of the season they could still get as many points as us because our first half of the season has been pretty crap.

I know the second half of the season usually has more significance.

Arsenal and Spurs have been sloppy to so it could be a low points top 4 battle, which could give West Ham and Saints a look in.

    The top 2 is decided.

The other 2 slots are looking like going to United and Arsenal, but there's still plenty in the hunt. I think West Ham are genuine challengers, Spurs won't be far away, Soton us and you lot are all in with a squeak if we put together a run of results. Long way to go yet.
