I just wanted say that although I voted yesterday I would like to change it slightly by having a joint silver and add Gordon Jago as he was also instrumental in this era and when you look at this golden era at QPR you will notice that not only do they closely follow each other i.e. 1958-1984 albeit with the exception of a couple of interruptions there was one stable force a linchpin that joined these together JIM GREGORY who in my opinion should not be left out because he was as important if not more than any of the managers mentioned (in my choice) and I just wanted to let some of the younger posters know that with the correct backing of good owners look what was possible! Gold= Stock Silver= sexton/Jago Bronze= Venebles
Gold - Dave Sexton Silver - Jago / Venables Bronze - Gerry Francis (first spell in charge) I don't know enough about Alec Stock so will not comment.
Gold - Venables - If only he hadn't gone to Barca, who knows what may have been. Silver - Jago - So close, yet so far, but entertaining nonetheless Bronze - Warnock - This may be hastey but I figured he transformed a team heading the wrong way out of the Championship into worthy Championship winners in the space of 12 months. (Plus he managed to flog QPR to Bothroyd.)
After fourteen responses: Votes Gold: Stock x 6, Venables x 4, Sexton x 3, Holloway x 1, Votes Silver: Jago x 4, Sexton x 4, Venables x 3, Warnock x 2, Stock x 1, Votes Bronze: Venables x 4, Holloway x 2, Warnock x 2, Sexton x 1, Jago x 1, Smith x 1, (Francis x 2), (JtO no vote), It's getting a bit complicated now with joint votes and what-not... I'm just scoring the first three names given by each member in the order given. Having said that, it's all good - and makes an interesting read where your giving some reasons for your votes. Not sure how I'll tot it up at the end - probably points is fairest (3 for each gold vote, 2 for silver, 1 for bronze) - otherwise we could end up with the same manager getting gold, silver and bronze!
You're writing is always good Brixton, as for your maths ......... After 16 Gold: Stock (7), Venables (4), Sexton (3), Warnock (2) Silver: Sexton (5), Jago (4), Venables (3), Holloway (2), Warnock (2) Bronze: Venables (4), Holloway (3), Warnock (2), Jago (2), Smith (1),......... Francis G (3), One spoilt ballet paper.
Thanks Rock 'n Roller - you're right never to rely on my maths (best I ever got for that subject was 'see me'! BUT you're wrong too - you've counted Flanman twice - he revised his votes!! And guess who I missed out? I know you know cos bet you noticed your vote for Warnock gold was missing! I've re-counted and the correct scores are as follows. After fifteen responses: Votes Gold: Stock x 6, Venables x 4, Sexton x 3, Holloway x 1, Warnock x 1, Votes Silver: Jago x 4, Sexton x 4, Venables x 3, Warnock x 2, Holloway x 1, Stock x 1, Votes Bronze: Venables x 4, Holloway x 2, Jago x 2, Warnock x 2, Sexton x 1, Smith x 1, (Francis x 2), (JtO no vote),
Simple Sexton his side played the greatest football and contained the likes of Stan Bowles, Phil Parkes, Dave Thomas, Gerry Francis, Ian Gillard and Dave Clement. All England players and they should've all won more caps. That side pushed Liverpool all the way, I was at school with a load of Liverpool supporters and would of loved it if the R's had piped them to the title. (forgiven for managing chelski) Gold El Tel - Silver Gordon Jago - Was manager of Rangers when I started following football - Bronze. All the manager mentioned deserve to be remembered as greats. I wish Neil Warnock all the best in the coming season and he could become a QPR legend. Come on Uuuurrrrrsssss
1. Dave Sexton (i remember being a kid at their south ruislip training ground he used to let us have kick abouts with the players, legend. ) 2. El Tel (revoltionary ................ 1.0 wins, plastic pitch and wembley) 3. Stock (im too young, but what a story) Ollie (for having pride and passion) and the Doc (flowing, attacking football) were 2 great managers we had, for different reasons, who should get more praise than they do.
Jago did that for him! From memory Sexton signed Masson and Hollins, the rest were Jago's signings. I'm not knocking what he then did with those players though.
Agree there Roller. Current scores (double checked!) After nineteen responses: Votes Gold: Stock x 7, Sexton x 6, Venables x 4, Holloway x 1, Warnock x 1, Votes Silver: Venables x 6, Jago x 5, Sexton x 4, Warnock x 2, Holloway x 1, Stock x 1, Votes Bronze: Venables x 4, Jago x 3, Warnock x 3, Holloway x 2, Sexton x 2, Smith x 1, Stock x 1, (Francis x 2), (JtO no vote),
Being and oldie but a newbie Gold STOCK...he took a nothing team and won a cup from the third division and took them to Division 1 (Premiership) Silver VENABLES...took a team from near the bottom of the division to a cup final and then into Division 1 (Premiership)...with flair But these two did it with the help of the board. Bronze WARNOCK...he took a team from near the bottom into the Premiership... in spite of the board But a special award to OLLIE cause he was fantastic with all the ****tu that was going on around him (and we got such brilliant after match press conferences...I loved the one about the match being like taking a girl back for cup of coffee)
Thanks for voting on this thread qprbeth - and for adding some extremely astute reasoning with it. Great stuff. Will review current scoring tomorrow.
After twenty responses: Votes Gold: Stock x 8, Sexton x 6, Venables x 4, Holloway x 1, Warnock x 1, Votes Silver: Venables x 7, Jago x 5, Sexton x 4, Warnock x 2, Holloway x 1, Stock x 1, Votes Bronze: Venables x 4, Warnock x 4, Jago x 3, Holloway x 2, Sexton x 2, Smith x 1, Stock x 1, (Francis x 2), (JtO no vote),
Hmmm, no Wilkins then... So actually calculating 3 pts for gold, 2 for silver and 11 for bronze I make it: 1. Venners = 30 points 2. Sexton = 28 3. Stock = 27 I'd agree with that.
I don't think we should even be considering Warnock with the way he's conducting himself right now. Best wait and see what happens with the board and how COLIN explains his conduct when they're gone
Right AAAAAGHie ol' son, what's all this about 11 points for bronze? I'm after your votes sir. I take it you're voting Venables, Sexton and Stock in that order? If not, please let me know what you'd rather go for.
