Oh i knew that would be controversial, but i honestly believe we achieved those promotions despite the manager.
Neither managed during the Adam Pearson regime... Edit: Or did they ? I can't remember now... Freaking memory
Brian Little spent £1m in a Summer and didn't win promotion and Molby spent a huge amount on wages and didn't win promotion. Peter Taylor attracted better quality players and helped us with media relations. He also didn't spend half as much as Molby and Little to get us out of the bottom league.
Peter Taylor also spawned 2 cracking pub quiz questions, can't get much better than that... Who was the only Third Division player to win full England caps? and Which England Manager gave David Beckham the captaincy?
Interesting that nobody has yet mentioned Nick Barmby, given especially how upset so many people on here were when he was sacked. For me:- Bruce Brown Fred Stringer Nah, really, third place Terry Neill.
I'll take that as a no. The REAL shortest serving England manager is currently a tie between Keegan, McClaren and Hodgson.
