We're also only four points from 16th.

Sick of hearing about Rodgers and the youth. Can anybody name the current crop of quality players who were produced by Rodgers while head youth coach at Chelsea?

He's benefitting from the Academy instigated by Rafa and overseen by Dalglish, with players who have been brought through properly and would have seen more chances from most other managers. Dalglish played Flano and Robinson in his first match back and would've played more last season had we not dropped off a cliff, which is not the time to be putting pressure on young players to turn things around. There's also the matter of our small squad requiring supplements but if Rodgers had the players he wanted to buy I doubt he'd be relying on Rafa's and Kenny's kids quite as much.

As for West Brom, why the surprise? We challenged for 4th for much of last season with Clarke as coach. He didn't need three years to "turn it around". He didn't claim he had "a lot of work to do" to turn a pass and move squad into a pass and pass and pass and move squad. He's had as much time as Rodgers without the level of players. I wonder what his PowerPoint skills are like?

I think to aim for the top four is a realistic aim for this season. The prem is looking like a terrible league this season imo.

Do have a point with Clarke, I think we have missed him.... as for everything else.....

Also, why so damn negative after we won? Do you really not want Liverpool to succeed under Rodgers? Surely putting the club in front of the hate for the man is more important?

This bit made me laugh. Do you realise that we finished a massive 13 points off 4th place last season? Are you that blind to see that Kenny had an abysmal league campaign by our standards, let alone spending huge amounts on the team?

That's a great point about Clarke compared to Rodgers. Rodgers has perpetuated the myth that his 'system' is something that requires years to become embedded into the club, which is nothing more than him managing expectation levels in the short / medium term. Without the mythical 'system' he'd just be A N Other football manager who'd be expected to deliver results from the off. By setting his stall out as he has, he's gained himself a season in reality from the majority of reds - which makes him clever in terms of self preservation. It remains to be seen whether that same level of intelligence comes through in the crucial management decisions he'll have made in his first season, when he goes for his first review in Boston..............

Corr, you think you've made a reasonable comment, go out for a few hours and all hell breaks loose!

toblerone I would identify you as an evil little spirit. However, that would be unfair to yourself as you are obviously a Jonny No Pals but that comes with being a Blue. It would also be unfair to those Redmen of a philosophical bent who have already discussed spirituality and faith in a well argued way. But you are becoming somewhat of a bore with your "it's my right to post where and what I want" attitude. It's just childish.

BLUFF I have to remind you that Broken Record is a very useful tactic in Assertive Communication.

frank Yes I do believe that it is possible to be ready to mount a serious challenge as early as next season.. We will know by the end of this season just how good our youngsters are and could become. We will have a whole outfit, squad, manager and coaches, directors, etc. who will have a better understanding of how to work together. Wherever we play our European football, we will have demonstrated to younger players across Europe that Liverpool is a club in which your skill will be enhanced and you will not be treated as a number 2.

mfg Kenny has gone and will not be coming back as manager. However, by either good luck or by design we now have a manager who's strategic intent is to play football firmly based upon the fundementals of pass and move - no matter what terms he or others chose to describe it.

Shut up you tart!!!! (As Delboy would say)

Yeah ur right Dalglish played Flanno ( who is techically sh*t ), instead of the FAR more promising Wisdom ,Sterling n Suso. Why cos hes good buddies with Flannos dad ( who was a reserve in the 80s), who runs Carras 23 foundation, Kenny did it ALL the time, giving games to players to the guys he got on with , not the ones MOST deserving. Kenny was f**kin clueless last time round £35m Carroll,£16mHendo,£20m Downing.Kenny the man who use to leave Peter Beardsley out cos they didnt get on

Regards 4th, like most have said, probably not, but certainly possible, and not even a long shot. With the run of games we have now, we could even be v close to 4th by January if we perform, and if we get the window right in January, we could have really STRONG chance, not just an outside chance

When you put it that way Dave; good stuff! Still not convinced we've got our act together in the "suits" department which makes me nervous come transfer window time.

I do think if there's no major psychological shanningans for the test of the year we have some pretty nifty young 'uns who will be battle hardened & still exuberant to realise it is that fun!

Heads down & hope in the mean time.

I still think another year. :(

    Good shout <ok>

I think the jury is still out on Rodgers. You played well against Wigan and deserved the very good victory. But that was very overdue. It seems a lot of your manager's effort is spent on PR, promoting his style of play and giving the impression that he is bringing something new to the club. Clarke without much fanfare is quietly getting results at WBA.

As for challenging for the title next season, realistically you need to be in the top 4 this season to be in contention next season. A win against Wigan at home however well you played is not evidence that Liverpool will be top 4 never mind challenging for the title next season <ok>

Smaller clubs such as WBA (no disrespect) will always have less press coverage and scrutiny attached to them (unless they're fighting relegation). Rodgers is doing no different to last season however he seems to be under pressure on our current results however he achieved similar results last season yet was lauded.

    Different clubs, different expectations.

It is funny that visiting supporters are so confident that their opinion is fact when it comes to our side. Now I don't want to be rude but you are talking rubbish.

If you re-read the arguments that I forwarded regarding our clubs possible challenge next season there is absolutely no imperative for us to achieve top 4 this season. It will totally be a question of both club and squad development.

As for Rodgers, then against Wigan we saw the confidence that he has in his trust and understanding of his squad to make a major strategic change that influenced the game. That skill goes far above mere self-promotion and bodes well for the future.

I rather Clarke and believe that he will mke a good manager for you. However, his situation is very different. He inherited an experienced squad and joined a club that has a much lower profile and expectation.

Mmm, good points Lads. I said from the start it will take about 3 years for us to be challenge for the league title again, my opinion hasn’t changed. I do have trust in the manager though. We will see in January, January will tell us a lot.

    <whistle>

should i come on and make a comment or just bask in the light of not being the one called negative... <laugh>

Garbo has it right, just judge the evidence as it comes and don't make big leaps. summer, not so hot. fsg should be looked at there as well as rodgers and both should be also judged to some extent by january's activities, mistakes are mistakes if they are repeated though thats when peopel should be called to account.

Rodgers has another 6-8 weeks to maximise the reutrns he can get from his squad and hopefully continue suarez's run of form in fornt of goal. thats his immediate job. then he either will or will not get his reinforcements and has another 4 months of the res tof the season to improve.

Do i trust him? no... what evidence tell me to trust the guy? Conversely i don't "not trust him" so I'm hoping theres moeny to spend and it is spent well.

This is like when i said the "man in the street" but about signings, at least with a player like say adam, donwing or even dempsey there's a long record to make a judgement call on him. Rodgers doens't have a long track record (unlike hodgson) so we should be traeting him like a young player coming in. give him time and monitor how he does. surely if the jury is not still out then the kop would have a real rodgers anthem by now eh? <ok>

perhaps in 3 years when everything people point to all comes together (or not) then he will have a song and a part of legend.. but he needs big backing to get there.

    You talk bollocks.

Please go away until you have an actual clue about Brendan Rodgers.

    Thanks.
