He's a **** for lots of reasons and no he doesnt miss it. Which to me makes him a ****. Any man who's played football and then due to being too old to play it and say they dont miss it is a ****, and obviously cant have loved it. You may want to look around things a little more before responding. Ask any on here who are too old to play anymore if they miss it, course they ****ing do. Just for your education. Lineker was ****ing around for years, but the beeb stifled all that. Not like them is it to look after their stars!! Fergie made reference to Lineker having injunctions out when Lineker took a swipe at Fergie. In Linekers autobiography, which I've read and you havent, him and his agent strategically placed him aloof from football in their marketing of him. Due to football having a bad press, so he was always bigged up as a keen cricketer and snooker fan, (Dont see any pics with WillieThorne anymore do we, not good for the image) and pics in the Sun etc used to have him in cricket whites rather than football kit. Lastly read Keith Allens book about the WC. While Bobby Robson was giving a speech thanking the squad, Lineker was taking the piss laughing at him. Keith Allen thought you ****ing **** you come out with all the spiel about dear old Bobby, but your a ****
Curtis Davis wasn't far away from giving up according to what he said, until SB came in a re-booted his career. Sometime poor management can be to blame, just not giving certain players a chance, sticking them on the bench week after week, they just get pissed off with the whole thing.
You're completely right there. Everyone I know on Fleet Street (yes I know it's not really Fleet Street anymore, it's a terminology) has told me about Lineker being an absolute serial shagger at the height of his fame and he really put poor Michelle through it. Every time he was threatened with exposure he gave an exclusive story to said paper about something else as a trade off.
Bentley was one of those who got a 'second wind'. He looked like never living up to his abilities, then resurrected himself at Blackburn only to choose his next move with his heart and not his head. He should never have gone to Spurs. Michael Johnson was a great player but clearly not cut out for the off-field issues that come with professional football.
Ronaldinho maybe? Slightly different since he was absolutely world class but he just could've been so much more! Quaresma - remember him being the next whatever about 2004(ish) Keirrson- despite being ****e he still technically plays for Barcelona! Adriano - best known for scoring from anywhere on Pro Evo. Was touted as next Fat Ronaldo in a good way. Became Fat Ronaldo in a bad way.
Funny you say that because I knew **** all about him as a player apart from he played for Inter, but he was always ace on football games. I specifically remember he had the highest shot power you could possibly have on one edition of Pro Evo, so the scoring from anywhere thing sounds about right.
Almost forgot Yohan Gourcuff! Which says it all really. Was a favourite of mine a few years ago and I have no idea where he is now.
I think he's benchwarming at Lyon. Lyon, now that's what i'd call a 'faded club'. Was easily the best in France a while ago, won 7 titles in a row, haven't won anything since and have been very average.
Blimey Jezz I had to look twice at your post as I thought it said Joyan Cruff ( or his full name Hendrik Johannes Cruijff )
Michael Branch is another one with a City connection - http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2012/nov/10/everton-michael-branch-fall Michael Bridges too, though his was more to do with injuries, I remember one season where he was at Leeds where he scored about a million goals, got injured and then was never the same again.
Hulk perhaps? Stories linking him with everyone and their dog. He's still pretty good like. Bojan is a great shout. Its hard to remember these players because the only thing memorable about them is never doing anything memorable! Jack Rodwell maybe another?
He was absoloutely ****ing brilliant at Inter for a short while, nicknamed L'Imperatore (The Emperor) by the fans. He did indeed banjo them in from anywhere and was practically unplayable at 15 stone plus and 6ft 3 of pure muscle he'd swat defenders away with ease. Where he went wrong was he got bored of playing (another one...), got fat and wanted to part in Rio more than run around a football pitch. Mancini and Jose both had enough and Inter cancelled his contract. He pissed about a bit with a few clubs in Brazil but he never got anywhere near back to his best. He's still only in his early 30s. His time in Italy is probably most famous for a retrospective ban he got for diving to win a penalty. Now why dont they do that over here....?
