He's going to come on and hopefully cause problems for the opposition. He's not a world beater but at least when he come on today he put himself about a bit. You don't need to keep whinging about the fans. Ashley Is the problem not them

If that's going be typical of Bruce's tactics, then we're as good as down.

Midfield was desperately poor. Shelvey had a dreadful game - should have been hooked far earlier. Haydon's an average player. Almiron needs a goal. He'll improve.
Brighton were given so much time to play their game, and to have 70% possession? Bruce is targeting 4th bottom.

Yep, the midfield is where we lost it. The problem is that we don't have the players to play the fast counter attacking football that Bruce probably wants - nor is he got enough tactically to do this!

With a fit Longstaff and another fit player good on the ball ( a la Gross or Mooy for example) then we probably could with Lejeune and Schar behind and Max, Joelinton and Almiron up front.

I’m not surprised with the performance or the result. We set up defensively from the outset and basically say back and let them play. We started the game with 8 defensive minded players. **** me!

The problem is that Miggy is highly unlikely to 'improve' whilst key players are missing and, in consequence, the playing style is backs to the wall. Not currently a first 11 player for me, currently he is on a steady course to beat Atsu's record for number of games without an assist or goal.
ASM cameo impressed, him and Ritchie in wide midfield positions completely changes the dynamic.
I'm still a Shelvey>Longstaff man, but not fervently so.

You have been praising Atsu of late, and Manquillo.
Also, do you not rate Dummet then?

Bad tactics, bad management. It's - predictably - McLaren all over again. Horrible set-up, plagued by problems that are now 3 years old; no attacking intent.

Bruce is so incredibly limited he might as well just go 4-4-2 and hope for the best. It's pretty clear he's trying to imitate Rafa's tactics, but doesn't quite know how they're supposed to work. We're RIDICULOUSLY easy to play against - as I said elsewhere it's simple numbers. Teams against us are basically playing 7/8 attackers vs our 9 man defense. We can't actually counter-attack for ****, don't know how, Bruce hasn't a clue either. His soundbytes are just McLaren on repeat - distance between lines, not clinical, etc., etc.

Stat of the day from yesterday - Newcastle at home to Brighton had less possession than Watford away at Man City.

Sky had a few other stats yesterday that put our start to the season in sharp focus.

The lack of goals stat will shape our future in this division. I look at it as the medicine that whilst is horrible to take, is what we need to drive out Ashley.
