Nah to me they are United and we are Newcastle. Fact that I live in Manchester when I am in UK may affect that. So its either City or Utd. Can't remember anyone calling us United when I lived there early 80's - it was always the Toon or Newcastle.
"Howay United" is a regular cry in Newcastle and at the games **** Man United, they aren't even called United because of two teams uniting, they were called Newton Heath.
Quite right, a team that 'United" most of Manchester. Some teams just get a name to identify them, Manchester City are City, we are United. Leicester are Leicester and Newcastle are as they are commonly known Nothing derogatory just the way life/common understanding has developed. Stop being so precious.
My point still stands, we are called Newcastle United because of west end and east end coming together, that makes sense, you were called Newton Heath, what the **** has that got to do with "United"? It's nowt to do with being precious, just history.
We have toon, Newcastle and Geordie as media identification were a 1 club city and there is no team to be mixed up with. Let yem have it. Christ Dundee Utd don’t moan about it or Rotherham or west Han or Cambridge
He's just shouting at the moon as he got banned off the PL thread. Has he apologised to you yet for dragging you down with him?
So did I and don’t need one, to be fair shot from the hip without reading a lot of the previous conversation on previous pages so I’ll take it in the chin. I quite like most the lads in there and had sank a few
So what, i don't know about those teams names as i don't support them so haven't researched their history. We got our name from two teams coming together.
It’s cool mate, don’t hold any bad will against him, I actually have decent enough craic with him normally. I called him, he’s retaliated and that’s the end of it as far as I’m concerned. Too many pints….. it happens
Hopefully it will free up your time to find tickets for the Southampton game for mates overseas. Even the Hospitality tickets are sold out.
Newcastle united existed before Manchester United... I'm with ToonArmy1892.. there's only one united and its Newcastle United. Having said that I think he had a few too many pints yesterday.
Don't know what that says but man united wasn't named united until about 20 years after newcastle. I personally hate the arrogance of the term united ... there's loads ... just my opinion though
I agree. My point is that when you live in Manchester when somebody asks whether you are a United or a City supporter its how the cities teams are known. @ToonArmy1892 may be correct that Newcastle are known as United in Newcastle but to everyone who lives elsewhere in the UK and around the world that's not the case. I don't think anybody can claim the name United, City or Town as their own. Plymouth can probably claim Argyle.
Anyway getting back to the game, think that must be the best atmosphere I have heard. Had to watch it with my headphones on as the maids were sleeping as its fasting month and they need to get up to make mine and their meals at 3.00am. Thought our performance was as good as the Arsenal performance last year. Tore into them from the start and they just couldn't cope with the intensity and pace. Really like the combination of Willock, Longstaff and Guimares in that main midfield role. With Murphy and St Maximin wide, plus Isak coming short, it makes it very difficult for any defence to deal with. Think they spotted this and tried to give Varane the responsibility of stepping up into midfield but it left us with loads of space.
Newcastle have a very tough run of games ... I still think they'll come up short of top 4 but top 6 is on and that's a great season. If they get 6 to 9 points from west ham Brentford and Villa they'll be in with should of top 4 but I don't see it happening.
