He's had hundreds of millions mate... If they bought them all spread out over 3 years it would still be the same squad. They just wouldn't have done very well initially.
Like I say if the money was already spent it doesn't matter. If they spread it out over the 3 years you'd still have the same amount. They might just not have Isak, Gordon or Guimareas though. Theyd have had to buy cheaper players to save some money for later.
No one is arguing about the amount. The fact is that the squad has stagnated over the last few windows. Without constant improvement and investment you fall behind.
The squad is the same in value and he been backed as much as possible. If they spread it out they just couldn't have signed the likes of Isak. It's probably why they initially went for Ekitike.
It’s the fact that the squad hasn’t increased in value that is the point. No one is saying he hasn’t been backed as much as possible. If as much as possible isn’t enough then you struggle. It’s a difficult balance with an unfair system. Spending more upfront avoided relegation and got Champions League and a cup final but over the 3 years you tail right off. Spreading it out would have been more risky in terms of relegation and not getting the extra money from CL and cup final. The way they did it means the tail off is expected so probably why they aren’t panicking about sacking the manager because they know the backing has tailed off. Likely is why they looked at Ekitike though yes. For now they probably need to be smarter with some of the signings
The way Eales talks it sounds like Howe is not being seen as responsible for the problems, so for all I think we need to move on I’m not convinced we will. This summer is huge either way, but then so are the next two months. If it’s Howe, Burn, Schar, Barnes and co on the pitch come September then we all need a massive reset on expectation and it’s top half and the league cup at best.
How many times do I need to make this same point!!! Howe doesn’t buy the players. The final decision as to to who to buy is not Howe’s. So why do you and others keep blaming Howe for the players we have and the players we buy. Same point in principle as to who we sell and don’t sell. Howe isn’t above criticism but can we all keep that criticism to the point as well as being fair and not dummy spitting.
He’s had the backing. But so have other top six clubs and we started about 600m behind. I think he’s going ok with what he’s had if I am Honest. I just over react when we lose against mid table teams. There I was honest about myself. Everyone clap. Now where do you go out as a 45 year old in Newcastle these days. Anyone got any sensible suggestions?
