It never ceases to amaze me

a. How many ex players demonstrate they don’t know and have never known the Laws of the Game.
b. How many ex players turn up on television purporting to be ‘experts’ and capable of intelligent analysis.

The real issue is the TV talent spotters. I mean who thought "I know, that Jermain Jenas and Michael Owen seem a ****ing hoot and just radiate charisma"?

English football seems to be remarkably incestuous when it comes to ex-players careers. You only have to listen to most of them to realise that they are thick and haven't mastered the English language. Hardly the best combination for a manager or a pundit on TV. They get these jobs because of who they are, not what they can do.

I cringe whenever Jermaine Jenas pops up on the One Show as you can tell he has no real clue how to conduct an interview. He doesn't listen to or maybe understand the answer and can't follow-up because of that.

The Womens World Cup really highlighted this issue, when the BBC studio was packed full of ex-players and the current Arsenal Women's Manager. Former players spouted off the usual cliches while he gave real insight into how the game, the players and how the coaches should be looking to change things.

England manager Gareth Southgate on injury concerns:

"We could lose one today after a scan. We could lose one tomorrow. We don't really know.

"You'd be amazed how complicated picking a squad is because all clubs are sensitive to information.

"I can't be certain that everyone in the squad will be there on Sunday night.

"Callum [Wilson] is probably the biggest doubt."

I recall Wilson coming back with absolute ****ing stinking form the last time he went out with England.

Just tell him Wilson is injured.

The situation is getting out of control and we're going to start losing regularly if they can't get players back after the international break.

Watching England U17 against New Caledonia. It’s the U17 World Cup in Indonesia. 57minutes gone and we are 6-0 up with NC down to 10men. How they qualified I don’t know.
