Is anyone else a bit worried about our ageing squad?

Ashdown - 30
Benjani - 33
Hermann - 37
Rocha - 32
Mokoena - 30
Mullins - 32
Kitson - 31
Norris - 30
Daily - 37
Kanu - 62

With half the squad 30 or over experience is something that we aren't lacking, but after the performance yesterday i think its about time we invested in some youth. We need players with a bit of pace and hunger to win and something to prove, that is lacking from the list above as they begin to wind down their careers. With a combined age of 95 years old i don't think the partnership of Benjani and Kanu is going to cut it this season....

Well if we get Erik Huseklepp he is only 26. That'll bring us up to 8 under 29s so we're on our way to half young and half experienced.

According to Wiki we've put a bid in for him and Stoke are also interested.

Wikipedia claims we offered £2 million for the Norwegian. Looking at his stats he has a decent appearances to goals ratio- seems like a player who would fit right into our squad- and put Kitson in his rightful position- the subs bench !! Looks like Cotts has pulled off a decent buy Here <ok>

Huseklepp is a winger, a lot like Varney <ok>

To be fair, Mullins & Hreidarsson are pretty fit, you couldn't really tell they're that age, and its a known fact goalkeepers hit their peak in their 30's.

Williams should really be getting more time one the pitch, though.

The best teams are ones that ballance age and youth to have both experiance and energy so I dont see anything wrong with having half a squad being over 30 so long as they are also younger players around them and youth players are being brought through.

You definitely need lots of experience to do well in the Championship and survive.

As for Benjani, I reckon he could be the missing link for us as an attacking midfielder, providing the link up play with our strikers that we desperately need. If he can score a few goals as well, then so much the better !

It's only a years contract, so a good deal for Pompey in my opinion.

PTID as the person here probably sitting the closest to you at the park, I will be giving you a dig in the ribs Tuesday night for your negativity! You must be reading the posts on the news website again!
We've lost one game. We were unfortunate not to get the point and we created far more chances than Brighton did. 2 new arrivals are expected this week, one very likely to be a youngster from Chelsea.
Williams came on and looked dangerous, and Jason Pearce is now available after his ban.
PUP :D :D

thesahffkoastizahhz: "one very likely to be a youngster from Chelsea". But hurry, only about six of those WW1 Chelsea pensioners are still alive!

I want to see Sam Magri, Ryan Williams and Stockford in the squad mixed in with these oldies. That would be excellent.

Pure fiction. You haven't go £2 let alone £2 million.

Interesting St G, that your team has just won a famous away victory that, quite rightly to be fair, will be talked about by real Southampton fans, yet your first port of call, (twice) is the Pompey forum.

Are you secretly harbouring a love for the blue side?!;);)
